Free Smoke Detectors For Elderly, Disabled And Low-Income Residents

With support from Home Depot, the City's Fire Department offers free smoke detectors to elderly, disabled, and low-income El Cerrito and Kensington residents.

For more information call the Fire Department at 215-4450 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The department's goal is to have a working smoke detector in every home.

Community Emergency Response Teams (C.E.R.T.)
Put out a fire, rescue a trapped victim, perform medical triage, and more.

You will learn to be prepared and to respond in an earthquake, wildfire, or other disaster in the comprehensive CERT Training Course (formerly known as the NEAT program). This course could save your life, and its free. read more

CPR/Basic First Aid
The El Cerrito/Kensington Fire Department offers CPR/Basic First Aid classes. Space is limited & registration is required. For dates and details, download the 2008 CPR schedule (PDF38Kb)

Tri-City Safety Day
Saturday, September 20
11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the El Cerrito Plaza
A tradition for more than 20 years, the El Cerrito/Kensington and Albany Fire Departments’ annual Tri-City Safety Day brings various public safety agencies together to meet and talk with local residents in a fun, informative manner. Guest appearances include Smokey the Bear, Bubbles the Clown, McGruff the Crime Dog and Pluggie the robotic fire hydrant. For more information, please call the Fire Department at 215-4450 during business hours.

Fire Station Open House
Saturday, October 4
As part of Fire Prevention Month, the community is welcome to tour inside a Fire Station and talk with the firefighters! Stop by the El Cerrito Fire Station #72 (1520 Arlington Blvd.) or the Kensington Fire Station #65 (215 Arlington Blvd.) anytime between 12 noon–4 p.m.
The Open House at Station #72 will include a free car seat safety check.
