UPDATE (February 2010): The Arts and Culture Commission selected Jonathan Russell and Saori Ide as the artists who will be commissioned for the San Pablo Avenue Streetscape Public Art Project. On February 16, 2010, the El Cerrito City Council reviewed and approved entering into a contract with these artists.

UPDATE (September 2009): The Selection Panel has selected eight proposals for review by the Arts and Culture Commission (ACC) at their meeting on Wednesday, September 23 at City Hall at 7:00 p.m. The ACC at that time may either choose to select an artist or discuss further action on the proposals received.

The City of El Cerrito issued a Call To Artists/Request For Proposals, seeking an artist to develop and install site-specific artworks for various sites along the length of the San Pablo Avenue Streetscape Project ("Project"). The selected artist will work with the Arts and Culture Commission (ACC), community, and staff to create site-specific, durable, artworks that serve to provide continuity and color along the Project.

Proposals were due by 4:00 p.m., PST, September 14, 2009. The City received 17 proposals from across the country, including several local artists. A selection panel was formed to do the first review of the proposals for recommendation to the ACC. This panel included ACC members, Design Review Board members, staff, and members of the El Cerrito Art Association.
