The El Cerrito Police Department is looking for the right person to become a School Crossing Guard at Madera Elementary School.

The El Cerrito Police Department needs your assistance in filling this important position. If you are an energetic, trustworthy person who enjoys working with children, please read this informational flyer.

Typical duties may include
Requesting school children to wait at the street curb for safe crossing and to dismount bicycles or remove roller skates; halting traffic by hand signal or traffic sign, with due consideration to the distance required to stop and the avoidance of unnecessary traffic congestion; conducting children safely across the street; signaling traffic to resume; performing related duties as assigned.

Typical hours are
8:00 to 8:40 a.m. and 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. when school is in session. Daily hours may fluctuate depending upon the school schedule.

Compensation
$12.06 per hour with a four hour per school day minimum guaranteed.

Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age, free of felony convictions, and be able to pass a background investigation to include a polygraph examination and fingerprint submission.

Knowledge of State and local traffic laws related to pedestrian traffic; safe and efficient work practices as they relate to the assigned duties; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, command the respect and cooperation of the children, deal effectively with the public.
