Celebrate the Arts in El Cerrito in October!
The City of El Cerrito's Arts and Culture Commission invites you to Celebrate the Arts in October!
CA Arts Day Logo
The California Arts Council designated the first Friday in October of every year as Arts Day in order to increase awareness of and participation in the arts statewide. The purpose of California Arts Day is to demonstrate the role and value of arts and culture throughout our state. In El Cerrito, the City kicked off Arts Month on October 2, and will celebrate our venues and businesses that promote the arts and culture of El Cerrito all month long!

Are you an El Cerrito Business celebrating an arts event in the month of October? Contact Karen Pinkos at (510) 215-4302 or kpinkos@ci.el-cerrito.ca.us to list your event on this page!

From our own Bay Area Newbrow art stars: gleaming, anthropomorphic robotic sculptures by Nemo Gould, a dark surprise from Annie Owens, fantastic monster cake sculptures by Scott Hove and a Franken-Animal by Isabel Samaras.

"All Dolled Up" - An exhibit featuring the exquisite art dolls of: JennyBird Alcantara, Anita Collins, Sheri DeBow and Kerry Kate. Slightly twisted, painstakingly beautiful and hauntingly lifelike, these "art dolls" beg to be played with and fussed over. Quirky personalities that put Barbie to shame, the dolls are hand crafted wonders of moody, mixed media for the "big girl" (or boy) in you.

Special Events in October:
National Theatre Live: "Alls Well That Ends Well"
Set against a background of sexism, snobbery and a battle between the generations, Shakespeare's "All's Well That Ends Well" turns fairytale logic on its head. It is a wondrous, bittersweet story. Join us for a rarely produced Shakespearean comedy from the stage of the National Theatre London. Mary Anne Elliot's direction creates 'A fairy-tale for adults... beautiful, funny and touching.' The feisty but lowly Helena falls in love with Bertram, a haughty count. To gain his hand she is set a string of impossible tasks. Even if accomplished, they can hardly guarantee his love. He refuses to bed her and yet says he'll only be hers if she bears his child; and he lusts after another. Nevertheless, our heroine, whether wisely or no, refuses to give him up.
Showtimes: Mon, October 19th & Wed, October 21st at 7:30 p.m. To purchase tickets, click here.
This Is It
Michael Jackson's "This Is It"
Two Week Engagement beginning October 27

Michael Jackson's THIS IS IT will offer Jackson fans and music lovers worldwide a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the performer as he developed, created and rehearsed for his sold-out concerts that would have taken place beginning this summer in London's O2 Arena. Chronicling the months from April through June, 2009, the film is produced with the full support of the Estate of Michael Jackson and drawn from more than one hundred hours of behind-the-scenes footage, featuring Jackson rehearsing a number of his songs for the show. Audiences will be given a privileged and private look at Jackson as he has never been seen before. In raw and candid detail, Michael Jackson's THIS IS IT captures the singer, dancer, filmmaker, architect, creative genius and great artist at work as he creates and perfects his final show. Kenny Ortega, who was both Michael Jackson's creative partner and the director of the stage show is also directing the film.
