National Night Out is August 5, 2008
National Night Out is a unique annual safety event highlighting crime, drug and violence prevention across the country. The 25th Annual National Night Out provides a unique opportunity for El Cerrito, California to join forces with thousands of other communities across the country. This event promotes cooperative, police-community crime prevention efforts.
Join with neighbors and friends to fight crime to make your neighborhood safer. Attend a block party or park get together to promote the partnership of neighborhoods and the police working together to deter crime.
If you are interested in organizing a block party, neighborhood barbecue, or other community event, please contact the Committee. If you are an El Cerrito resident and would like to attend a National Night Out event, talk to your neighbors and find out if an event is already being organized in your area.
Last year's Night Out was a great Success! Neighbors came together to fight crime and make the community safer during National Night Out on Tuesday, August 7, 2007. El Cerrito's Night Out program has won a national award for the past four years in a row (2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007).
Neighborhood Watch
Neighborhood Watch is the cornerstone of the El Cerrito Crime Prevention Committee's programs. We encourage community residents to join with their neighbors and build a safer place to live, work and play by educating them to help prevent crime. Our goal is for neighbors to watch out for one another. The Committee supplies information to these neighborhood groups and assists them in various crime prevention techniques. To find out about Neighborhood Watch in your area, please contact the Committee.
Identity Theft Workshops
One of the fastest growing areas of crime today is ID theft. The Committee has developed an outstanding program for educating El Cerrito residents on reducing their chances of becoming victims. Seminars are conducted, at no charge, by the Committee several times each year. Learn about credit card theft and fraud, phone card theft, check fraud from fraud detectives and other experts.
