The City of El Cerrito Arts and Culture Commission encourages everyone to celebrate and promote the arts and culture! Participate, patronize and support the arts and humanities in El Cerrito.

October Arts Month Kick-Off Celebration - Free!
Saturday, Oct. 1 from 2pm to 5pm
at the El Cerrito Community Center


Everyone’s invited to a kickoff celebration of Arts Month sponsored by the City of El Cerrito Arts & Culture Commission. This event will highlight the tremendous creativity and commitment of local artists and arts organizations.

MUSIC – DANCE – THEATRE – POETRY
 
Afro Latin Pop! – Guarandinga
Infectious original dance music with a unique Afro-Venezuelan beat! 

Chinese Traditional Dance and Folk Dance – Ah-Lan Dance Studio
Ah-Lan has been teaching Chinese dance, ballet, and modern dance in El Cerrito and Albany for over fifteen years. Her students will present an exciting dance and arts performance, highlighting their training in a variety of cultural forms, including Tibetan, Mongolian, Uighur, Dai and Korean dance traditions.

Songs from “My Fair Lady” – Contra Costa Civic Theatre (CCCT)
Cast members of this fall’s CCCT production will sing a medley of beloved songs from the classic Lerner and Loewe musical! 

Poetry and  Music – Maw Shein Win and Dan Plonsey
El Cerrito’s new Poet Laureate Maw Shein Win will read from her new chapbook, Score and Bone, with musical accompaniment by saxophonist Dan Plonsey.

Art Activities - Fun for all ages!
Artist Nga Trinh will offer a fun origami workshop - learn how to fold a Samuari Hat, a Glider, a Fan, and more!

***Plus refreshments by EncoreCakes, and information and display booths sponsored by a variety of local arts organizations.
