About the Division
The Environmental Services Division (ESD) is El Cerrito's one-stop resource for all things environmental. Our mission is to provide a leadership role in promoting environmental quality and innovation, as well as minimizing the environmental impacts of residential, business, and City activities in El Cerrito and the region. Our goals will be accomplished by developing, supporting, and managing a wide range of environmental programs, as well as serving as a single point of contact for inquires regarding environmental issues and projects.

Specifically, to achieve its vision of a Green City, the ESD:

• Manages the City's recycling and waste reduction programs
• Develops and implements resource efficiency and conservation programs
• Actively supports residents, businesses, and the City itself to make and implement environmental choices
• Helps identify El Cerrito as a green place to live and do business through the development and provision of environmental programs
• Works to incorporate green practices and principles into the way the City does business
• Provides an active presence in promoting regional collaboration
• Catalyzes and supports individual and community environmental action

As a division within the city manager's office, the division is able to work interdepartmentally to achieve City Council's goals for the City as a whole to be a proactive environmental leader and steward.
