Current Show: Where Water Meets Land
Paintings by Mei-Yu Black and Joanne Uomini
The City of El Cerrito Arts and Culture Commission is pleased to present "Where Water Meets Land" by Mei-Yu Black and Joanne Uomini from August 8 through September 27, 2017.

Download the show flyer.

The show features 13 acrylic on canvas paintings by local artists Mei-Yu Black and Joanne Uomini.

Black particularly likes to paint landscapes with water because "it has a mysterious beauty that I think is genetic. Our ancestors who found rivers and cherry blossoms to be beautiful, and wanted to live near them, survived famine and drought better than their cousins who didn't have any special feelings for such things."

What Uomini wants to capture is "color, delicious color. And mood. I am always looking for magic: a combination of composition and color."

Open Call to Local Artists
The City of El Cerrito's Arts and Culture Commission (ACC) invites artists to submit proposals to display their work in the rotating Gallery Space in the El Cerrito City Hall.

Regular submissions: The ACC reviews submissions for the Gallery Space twice each year, typically in May and November. During 2017, exhibits with El Cerrito themes will be given special consideration to honor the City's centennial.

The Gallery Space is a north-facing wall on the second floor loft hallway in City Hall, overlooking the lobby, with plenty of natural light. The exhibit space measures 42.75 feet (513") in length and 7.33 feet (88") in height, with a rail-wire hanging system.

Submittal Guidelines - The City Hall Gallery Space Guidelines for Artist Submittal were recently revised. Please download and read the current guidelines before submitting a proposal. Preference is given to artists who are residents of El Cerrito.

If you have questions about the City Hall Gallery Space or how to submit a proposal, please contact  Suzanne Iarla, Assistant to the City Manager/ACC Staff Liaison, via email or call 215-4318.

The Gallery Space, in the loft hallway above the lobby of the new City Hall, fulfills the City's contribution to the Art in Public Places program, which requires certain developments to contribute 1% of construction costs to public art.
