In preparation for the 2010 Census, the US Census Bureau is sending out Census workers (called “Listers”) with hand-held computers to verify addresses in El Cerrito. This week, the Census Bureau informed the City that the address canvassing work is underway now and will be completed within about 6 weeks.
Residents can easily identify Census workers by their official white and blue badges, and black canvas bags with the Census Bureau’s logo. The ID Badge contains a photograph of the field representative, Department of Commerce watermark, and expiration date.
Bay Area residents can call the Census Bureau’s Local Office in Oakland for worker verification at (510) 250-4320.
Upon request, the Census worker will provide residents with their supervisor's contact information and/or the regional office phone number for verification.
