Welcome New Chief Moir
The City of El Cerrito welcomes Sylvia Moir as El Cerrito's new Chief of Police. Chief Moir brings an extensive background in crime prevention, community involvement and leadership development to our City and Department. Moir has over 20 years of law enforcement experience. Chief Moir leaves the position of Commander with the City of Menlo Park’s Police Department where she oversaw the Operations Division, including the patrol, traffic and K-9 units.

Free Child Safety Seat Inspections
The El Cerrito Police Department offers free child safety seat inspections for El Cerrito residents only. Read more about how you can Schedule a Child Safety Seat Inspection
People who must be fingerprinted for various licenses and certifications can come to the Police Department and be electronically printed through the Live Scan system. Services are available Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. (No appointment necessary.) Live Scan services are also available on Saturdays by appointment.
The fee for fingerprinting is $44.00. This does not include any fees that might be charged by the Department of Justice, which depend on the type of applicant.
Online Traffic Court Payments
You can now make your traffic court payments online. Payments may be made by credit card at
https://www.paybill.com/contracostacourts/
(or go to www.cc-courts.org and click on
"PAY YOUR TRAFFIC TICKET ONLINE").
This service of the Contra Costa Superior Court is available daily (except between 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for maintenance). There is a $10 fee applied to each payment. You must know your docket or citation number to use this service. For more information, contact the Contra Costa Superior Court at (925) 957-5600.

Crime Reports
Information for the City of El Cerrito is now available through this Website and a Website called www.crimereports.com. Information on the site is updated on a daily basis, with a time delay for investigation and processing before it is released by the El Cerrito Police Department. With the introduction of this new crime information resource, the Police Department will no longer issue a weekly crime report. Press releases will still be provided for any major incidents or felony arrests.

Crime Prevention Committee
The Crime Prevention Committee was formed by resolution of the City Council in 1975. Membership is composed of El Cerrito residents interested in or knowledgeable of the criminal justice system. Meetings are the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
