On Thursday August 1, 2002 at approximately 12:50am Officers responded to 1021 Navellier St on the report of an assault that had just occurred. The victim of the assault sustained minor injuries to her head and face. Responding Officers conducted an investigation and determined that the suspect had fled to a residence in Richmond. Officers responded to the residence and placed the suspect under arrest. Harrison Etiosa Agbonavbare (24) of Richmond was arrested for felony assault and booked into the county jail. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a criminal complaint with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On Tuesday August 6th, 2002 at approximately 5:30 am El Cerrito officers arrested Robert Smith (54) of San Francisco for Terrorist Threats. It was determined during the investigation that Robert Smith threatened to physically harm the victim. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a criminal complaint with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On Tuesday August 6th, 2002 at approximately 1:39 pm El Cerrito officers arrested LLoyd Ware (48) of Hayward for residential burglary and possession of a stolen property. It was determined during the investigation that LLoyd Ware entered a residence without consent to steal property. LLoyd Ware was also in possession of stolen property from another residential burglary in Albany. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a criminal complaint with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On Wednesday August 7th, 2002 at approximately 6:54 pm officer Carcione arrested Carolyn Sims (40) and Rachelle Sims (22) of Richmond for Grand Theft. It was determined during the investigation that they selected items in the store and placed the items in a shopping basket. They then exited store without attempting to pay for the merchandise. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a criminal complaint with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On Thursday August 8th, 2002 at approximately 6:45 pm El Cerrito officers arrested Eduardo Triana (27) of Beverly Hills for robbery. It was determined during the investigation that Eduardo Triana entered the business and armed himself with a glass bottle. He forced the cashier to open the register. He fled the business and was apprehended soon after by El Cerrito officers. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a criminal complaint with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On August 8, 2002 at approximately 6:25pm El Cerrito Police Officers responded to the Super Stop Gas Station located at 11687 San Pablo Ave on the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. Responding officers obtained a suspect description and provided it to additional officers in the area. A suspect matching the description was located several blocks away a few minutes later. Eduardo Jorge Triana (27) of Beverly Hills Ca. was positively identified by witnesses and found in possession of the stolen cash and property. A surveillance tape of the robbery was also collected from the business that clearly showed Mr. Triana committing the robbery. Mr. Triana was booked into the County jail charged with Robbery. This case will be reviewed by the Contra Costa County District Attorneys Office for issuance of a criminal complaint. Anyone with questions or information should contact Detective Sergeant S. On August 10, 2002 at approximately 8:15pm Officer D. Alvarez responded to the Safeway Store located at 10636 San Pablo Ave. on the report of a shoplifter in custody. Officer Alvarez determined during his investigation that Carlos Estrada Bonilla (42) of Richmond concealed Safeway products in a backpack and exited the business without making any attempt to pay for the property. Mr. Bonilla was detained by store security and placed under citizen’s arrest. He was booked into the County Jail charged with felony theft with prior convictions. On Saturday August 17, 2002 at approximately 7:08 am Officer Bonini located a reported stolen Ford Explorer parked in the area of 6453 Hagen Blvd. During Officer Bonini’s investigation it was determined that Joe Billy Green Jr. (39) of Alameda had been in possession of the vehicle and driven it to that location. Officer Bonini arrested Mr. Green and booked him into the County jail charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle. On Saturday August 17, 2002 at approximately 4:30 pm Officer Keith responded to the Long’s Drugs store located a 10650 San Pablo Ave. on the report of a shoplifter being detained. Officer Keith learned that John Daniel Ivey (22) of El Sobrante entered the business with the intent to steal property from the business. Mr. Ivey concealed property in his backpack and was detained by store security as he attempted to exit the business. Mr. Ivey was placed under citizen’s arrest and turned over to the El Cerrito Police Department. Mr. Ivey was booked into the County jail charged with Burglary. On Sunday August 18, 2002 at approximately 9:20 am Officer Zink arrested Kirk Wayne Whitney (24) of El Cerrito on two outstanding warrants. During the arrest Mr. Whitney was found in possession of a loaded stolen handgun and a quantity of methamphetamine. Mr. Whitney was booked into the county jail charged with felony possession of a firearm and a controlled substance. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a criminal complaint with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On Sunday August 18, 2002 at approximately 5:00 pm Officer Bonini responded to the Long’s Drugs store located at 10650 San Pablo Ave. on the report of a shoplifter being detained. Officer Bonini determined that the subject being detained had entered the business with the intent to steal a large amount of liquor from the business. Officer Bonini arrested Billy Darensburg (47) of Oakland after learning that he concealed numerous bottles of alcohol inside of an ice chest after removing the UPC codes. He then attempted to remove the ice chest from the business. Mr. Darensburg was booked into the county jail charged with felony burglary as well as a parole hold. On Monday August 19, 2002 at approximately 8:25 pm Officer Keith Conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that had driven into an on coming lane of traffic on San Pablo Ave. almost causing a head-on collision. Officer Keith contacted the driver of the vehicle and determined that he was operating a motor vehicle without a valid drivers license. During the contact Officer Keith noted that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and far to impaired to be operating a vehicle. Officer Keith arrested Lonnie Hill (50) of Richmond and booked him into the county jail on felony DUI charges after learning that he had three prior convictions and was currently on probation for DUI. On Wednesday August 21, 2002 at approximately 5:00 pm Officer Carcione responded to the Safeway store located at 10636 San Pablo Ave. on the report of a shoplifter being detained. Officer Carcione arrested Marcus Watson (35) of Richmond after it was determined that he concealed store property and attempted to exit the business without making any attempt to pay for the items. Mr. Watson was booked into the county jail charged with felony petty theft with prior convictions. On Wednesday August 21, 2002 at approximately 9:38 pm El Cerrito Officers responded to the area of the 800 block of Everett St. on the report of two subjects attempting to break into a vehicle parked in the area. Responding officers located two juvenile subjects in a stolen Toyota Camry parked a few yards away. Both subjects were arrested and booked at the El Cerrito jail. On Thursday August 22, 2002 Officer Savko responded to the Albertson’s store located at 1000 El Cerrito Plaza on the report of two juvenile subjects being detained for stealing bottles of liquor. Officer Savko conducted an investigation into the theft and arrested both juvenile suspects after determining that they entered the business with an empty backpack intending to steal liquor. Both suspects were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for Burglary and released to their parents. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a criminal complaint with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On Saturday August 24, 2002 at approximately 11:50 am Officer Bonini observed two subjects fighting in front of 10955 San Pablo Ave. Officer Bonini separated the subjects and conducted interviews to determine the cause of the altercation. Officer Bonini arrested Geraldine Linsy (54) of Richmond for assault after it was determined that she attacked the victim causing minor injuries to the subject face and neck. On Saturday August 24, 2002 at approximately 8:09pm Officer Zink was in the area of San Pablo Ave. near El Dorado Ave. investigating the report of two subjects fighting. Officer Zink contacted Shayne Deviller Seymour (37) of Albany who was walking in the area. During the contact Officer Zink determined that Mr. Seymour was under the influence of a controlled substance. A subsequent search of Mr. Seymour revealed a small quantity of Methamphetamine and a glass pipe used for smoking Methamphetamine. Mr. Seymour was booked into the county jail charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and under the influence of a controlled substance. On Sunday August 25, 2002 at approximately 5:00pm Officer Zink responded to a residence in the 6300 block of Conlon Ave. on the report of a physical altercation between two subjects in a residence. Officer Zink conducted an investigation into the altercation and arrested Mohamed Sobhi (51) of El Cerrito for assault. Mr. Sobhi was booked into the county jail. On Sunday August 25, 2002 Officer Zink attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Mazda truck in the area of Richmond St. near Gladys Ave. The driver and two passengers fled from the truck and the remaining occupant drove the truck away. Officer Zink stopped the truck a short distance away and learned that the vehicle had recently been stolen from the City of San Pablo. Officer Zink arrested the juvenile driver of the vehicle and booked him at the El Cerrito Police Department for Motor Vehicle theft. Approximately 40 minutes later the three other subject who ran from the vehicle were observed by an off duty police officer in the area of Cutting Blvd. near San Pablo Ave. attempting to force entry into a vehicle parked in the lot. The subject then entered and attempted to “hotwire” a Dodge truck in the lot. El Cerrito officers responded and arrested all three juvenile suspects. Officer Zink also identified the juveniles as the same suspects that ran from the stolen truck. All suspects were booked into the Juvenile Hall charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and attempted motor vehicle theft. On Friday August 30th, 2002 at approximately 3:30 pm officers responded to the 7400 Block of Lynn St. on the report of a Carjacking that had just occurred. Officers obtained statements from the victim and searched the area for the suspects with negative results. The victim reported that he was physically assaulted my two male suspects while he was outside placing items in his two vehicles. During the physical assault the suspects took the victims keys and stole the victims two vehicles. On Saturday August 31st, 2002 at approximately 2:00 am Richmond Police Department detained a juvenile suspect in one of the victim vehicles. After further investigation the second suspect, Donta Easley (19) out of Oakland, was identified as one of the suspects. On 9/1/02 at approx, 9:00 am Oakland Police Department arrested Easley after he was observed driving the victims vehicle. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a criminal complaint with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On Saturday August 31, 2002, the El Cerrito Police Department will be conducting a multi-jurisdictional sobriety checkpoint during the Labor Day weekend with the assistance of the Richmond and Kensington police departments. Officers who are trained in the detection of alcohol/drug influence detection will staff the checkpoint. Motorists will be detained very briefly and screened for signs of intoxication. They will also be required to show their drivers licenses. Those showing no signs will be allowed to proceed. Drivers under the influence and or those without drivers licenses will be subjected to arrest, citation, and vehicle impounds. NOTE: The hours of the operation are from 2100-0300 hours.
