On 3/2/03, at approximately 1620 hours, Officer Tang responded to Walgreens to investigate a theft. A subject was being detained after she allegedly selected several items, brought them to the restroom where the items were concealed. After she left the store without purchasing the items she was detained by store employees. Arrested was Dyan Marie Smith, a 32-year-old resident of Richmond. Subsequent to her arrest, suspected methamphetamine was found in her possession. Smith was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on narcotic and theft charges and was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal complaint with the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office. On 3/2/03, at approximately 1725 hours, Sergeant Statton observed a disturbance between a male and a female in front of 11453 San Pablo Avenue. Additional officer arrive and investigate the cause of the altercation. Information and evidence gathered by the police implicated the male subject in domestic violence. Arrested was Vincente Alvarez Olivarez, a 36-year-old resident of San Francisco. Olivarez was booked for spousal battery and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 3/3/03, at approximately 0145 hours, Officer Zink contacted a subject near the intersection of Waldo Avenue and Kearney Street. During the stop, Officer Zink suspected the subject was possibly under narcotic influence. A subsequent search of his person revealed that he possessed a small amount of methamphetamine and marijuana. Arrested was Timothy Sean Carlton, a 32-year-old resident of Richmond. Additionally, there was a $30,000 warrant for his arrest. Carlton was booked at the EL Cerrito Police Department on felony and misdemeanor drug charges and the warrant, and was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 3/5/03, at approximately 1600 hours, Officer Wong responded to Long’s Drugs at the El Cerrito Plaza to investigate a theft. A subject was being detained after she allegedly selected several items, brought them to the register and attempted to refund them. Arrested was Pamela Jackson, a 42-year-old resident of Berkeley. Jackson was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on felony theft charges and was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 3/6/03, at approximately 0015 hours, Sgt. Mann located a suspect of an auto-burglary that had just occurred. Sgt. Mann detained the suspect near the intersection of Knott Avenue and San Pablo Avenue. The suspect had just broken into a car parked in the 2000 block of Key Boulevard, just a few blocks away. Found in the suspect’s possession was property from another auto-burglary that was perpetrated earlier. Arrested was Robert Charles White, a 19-year-old resident of Albany. White was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on charges of burglary and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal complaint with the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office. On 3/6/03, at approximately 1440 hours, Detective Bonini contacted a subject near the intersection of Portola and San Pablo Avenue. During his encounter, Detective Bonini discovered that the subject was in possession of contraband. Arrested was Brendan Bruce Carlton, a 31-year-old resident of Richmond. Carlton was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on narcotic charges and was released pending laboratory analysis. On 3/7/03, at approximately 1105 hours, Officer Tang was responding to investigate a burglary that had just occurred at a residence located in the 1700 block of Liberty Street. While en route, Officer Tang observed a group of juveniles matching the suspect descriptions walking in the 1700 block of Elm Street. The witness/homeowner identified the subjects who were subsequently taken into custody. On 3/8/03, at approximately 1230 hours, two subjects approached a Girl’s Scout cookie sale stand in front of Safeway. One of the subjects distracts one Girl Scout while the other subject assaults the other Girl Scout and steal money from the cash box. Both suspects were located and taken into custody. The 16 and 15 year-old suspect’s identities are being withheld due to their ages. Both were booked at the El Cerrito Police department on felony robbery charges and transported to Juvenile Hall. On 3/8/03, at approximately 1425 hours, Officer Tang responded to Target to investigate a shoplifting case. The suspect in this case, allegedly selected merchandise and left the store without making payment. Arrested was Audrena Marie Jones, a 36-year-old resident of Richmond. Jones was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on felony theft with priors charge and later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 3/09/03, at approximately 0530 hours, Officer D. Alvarez affected a traffic stop and subsequently located contraband on the driver and passenger. Arrested were Glenda Kaye Rideaux, 37-years and Reginald Lee Mixon 41-years, both residents of Richmond. Rideaux was booked and cited for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and traffic violations. Mixon was booked and cited on narcotic violations-possession of rock cocaine. On 3/8/2003, at approximately 2340 hours, D. Alvarez was dispatched to a suspicious person(s) call at Nation’s Hamburgers (6060 Central Avenue). Upon his arrival, he was advised by a citizen that three subjects inside the restaurant had burglarized vehicles near Belmont Avenue and Lassen Avenue. The three subjects were located and detained. During the investigation, several vehicles were located with fresh damage. All three juveniles were detained and brought to the El Cerrito Police Department. Upon completion of booking they were released to parent/guardian. The El Cerrito Police Department has forwarded this case to the Contra Costa County Juvenile Probation Department for disposition. On 3/10/03, at approximately 0700 hours, Corporal Horgan stopped a parolee driving a stolen car bearing a stolen license plate. Arrested was Richard Raymond Klein, a 31-year-old resident of Martinez. Martinez was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felony charge of auto-theft and later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 3/11/03, at approximately 1100 hours, Officer Tam responded to the Washington Mutual Bank in El Cerrito. Inside the bank a customer attempted to deposit a stolen check into his own account. Arrested were Douglas Carl Godfrey, 37 years and Willie Noise Brantley Jr. 46 years, both residents of Richmond. Both were booked on felony forgery charges and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. Today, El Cerrito obtained formal felony complaints against both suspects with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On 3/14/2003, at or about 1905 hours, Officer Garman stopped a motorist on Potrero Avenue near Elm Street for a moving violation. During the stop, Officer Garman detected a strong odor of marijuana permeating from the car. Her subsequent investigation resulted in the discovery of marijuana and packaging material. Arrested was Patrick Liam Devine, a 30-year-old resident of Kensington. Devine was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felony drug charge and later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. This case was later submitted to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, who declined to file charges in lieu of revoking his parole. On 3/16/2003, at approximately 1025 hours, Sgt. De La Campa came upon a suspicious vehicle that was being pushed by two subjects. A check of the vehicle’s license plate revealed that the car, a Toyota Cressida, had been reported stolen. Both subjects ran away when Sgt. De La Campa attempted to contact them. Following an area search, one of the subjects was located at Pic & Pac Liquors and taken into custody. Arrested was a 17 year-old juvenile resident of Richmond. Upon completion of booking, the suspect was released to a parent/relative. The El Cerrito Police Department has forwarded this case to the Contra Costa Juvenile Probation Department for filing and disposition. On 3/16/2003, at approximately 2330 hours, Officer W. Zink contacted and detained a subject whom he knew to have an active warrant for his arrest near the intersection of Gladys Avenue and Everett Street. A subsequent search of his residence (6800 block of Gladys Avenue) and vehicle was conducted with the assistance of a police canine. During the search, narcotics and paraphernalia were located and seized. Arrested was Dennis Anthony Lanham Sr., a 52 year-old resident of El Cerrito. Lanham was booked and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility where he is being held on charges of being in possession of controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. On 3/19/2003, at or about 2044 hours, Corporal Horgan stopped a bicyclist near Moeser Lane and Richmond Street for riding without a helmet. During his stop, Corporal Horgan decided to pat-search the subject for weapons. The subject resisted, which resulted in an injury to Corporal Horgan’s right hand. The suspect escaped and was later arrested (4/22/03) pursuant to a warrant. Arrested was Daniel R. Pedersen, a 26-year-old resident of Richmond. Pedersen was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on felony resisting charges. This case was later submitted to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, who filed a felony complaint against Pedersen. On 3/24/2003, at approximately 1000 hours, Officer Rogelio Alvarez contacted a citizen who reported that her vehicle had been stolen from the street in front of her home (700 block of Ashbury Avenue). The owner had elected to start her car and leave it unattended while the car warmed up. During this short period, the vehicle was stolen with the keys in the ignition. At approximately 1520 hours, Officer Alvarez observed the vehicle traveling northbound on Key Boulevard near Knott Avenue, occupied by four male subjects. A felony high-risk stop was performed in which 4 male juveniles were taken into custody. The suspects were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for auto theft and released to a parent/guardian and the vehicle was returned to its owner. The El Cerrito Police Department is continuing the investigation into a fatal hit and run collision occurring on San Pablo Ave in the early morning hours of 03/21/03. The outstanding witness in the case spoke to Investigators and has been eliminated as a suspect. The El Cerrito Police Department has obtained information about the vehicle used in the collision. We understand the driver might be scared and not know what to do. The driver of the vehicle should come to the El Cerrito Police Department or any local Police Station and inform the officers of what happened. On 3/26/03, at approximately 1220 hours, Officer Tam responded to the 900 block of Shevlin Drive upon report of suspicious vehicle occupied by two. Upon his arrival, Officer Tam observed two people asleep inside an ’83 Oldsmobile Cutlass, which was later determined to be stolen. Arrested were Dante Shelton Collins, a 21-year-old resident of Oakland and a 17-year-old female juvenile. Both were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for auto-theft charges and both had no bail warrants for their arrest. Upon completion of booking Collins and the juvenile were transported to their respective detention facilities in Martinez. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal complaint against Collins with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On 3/26 at about 3:20 pm at the Old West Gun Room located at 3509 Carlson Blvd in El Cerrito there was an attempted robbery. The Storeowner advised that one Black male entered the store and asked about making a purchase. The Store Owner felt this person was suspicious and asked him to leave. The entry to the store is control by electric locks and the Storeowner hit the switch to let this person exit. At about this time the Store Owner observed two other Black males walking up to the entrance. The first Black male, according to the Storeowner, held the door open for the other two. As the door was held open the Storeowner saw that one was carrying a shotgun. The Storeowner stated the person carrying the shotgun raised it and pointed it at him. The Storeowner took out the handgun he always carries while in the store and fired at the suspect(s) who backed out of the store abandoning the shotgun. They were able to make good their escape. One suspect (the first one in the store) was shot by a customer who was inside the store. This suspect was struck in the left ankle and is being treated at Dr’s Hospital in San Pablo. At the time of the shots being fired, an uninvolved person a 16-year-old male was walking on the opposite side of the street from the Old West Gun Room. This person was struck by errant rounds and was also taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. The descriptions of the at large suspects are Black Males, in their late teens to early twenties. Both were wearing dark clothing. At this point the identities of the gunshot victim and the wounded suspect are being withheld. On 3/27/03, at approximately 1445 hours, Officer Greenwood responded to Ross Dress for Less at 2000 El Cerrito Plaza to investigate a call of a reported shoplifting. According to security personnel, they observed a subject enter the store with bag from another store, go the men’s department where he selected items and concealed them inside the bag. The suspect left the store without paying the concealed items and was detained. Arrested was Leander Ray Sellers, a 54-year-old resident of Oakland. Sellers was booked on a charge of burglary/shoplift and released after signing a promise to appear. The El Cerrito Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred at the Washington Mutual Bank (9950 San Pablo Avenue) on 3/28/2003, at approximately 1230 hours. The suspect presented a teller with a demand note and was given cash. The suspect is described as a black male, late 20’s, 6-0/6-1, medium build with a shaved head and facial stubble, wearing a blue sweatshirt. The suspect escaped on foot and scaled a rear wall toward Fairmount Avenue. There is no suspect vehicle information that is known at this time. On 3/29/2003, at approximately 2108 hours, officer from this department were dispatched to investigate a 9-1-1 call that came from a residence located in the 1400 block of South 56th Street. A neighbor there reported that they could hear sounds of a woman being thrown against a wall and a man’s voice threatening to shoot the woman. Officer Garman contacted the occupants of the apartment where the disturbance had occurred and determined that the female’s boyfriend had battered her. Arrested was Richard Lee Anderson, a 37-year-old resident of El Cerrito. Anderson was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on domestic violence charges and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 3/30/03, at approximately 1500 hours, Officer Wong responded to the 100 block of Santa Fe to investigate an attempted theft of a motorcycle. The suspect had been seen fleeing on a yellow scooter. Approximately two hours later, Officer Doty observed a subject matching the suspect description riding a yellow scooter in the rear lot of the Civic Plaza Apartments, located at 10944 San Pablo Avenue. After a witness arrived and positively identified the detained subject as the person who attempted to steal the motorcycle, the suspect was taken into custody and booked at the El Cerrito Police Department. Arrested was a 17-year-old juvenile from Richmond. The juvenile was transported to Juvenile Hall in Martinez on an outstanding no bail warrant. On 3/30/03, at approximately 2300 hours, Officer Greenwood responded to the Del Norte Apartments to investigate an attempted auto-theft that had just occurred. The victim in this case had observed the suspects and recorded the license plate of the vehicle they fled in. During Officer Greenwood’s investigation, San Pablo P.D. Officer Weigers located the suspect vehicle and three occupants near 1820 California Avenue in San Pablo. After the victim arrived and identified the suspects as the ones who attempted to steal his car, the three were taken into custody and booked at the El Cerrito Police Department. Arrested were:
All were charged with attempted auto-theft. Perez and Hernandez were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility and the juvenile, who had a warrant, was taken to Juvenile Hall in Martinez.
