On 6/1/2003, at approximately 0013 hours, officers from this department responded to the 1300 block of Scott Street in response to a 9-1-1 call. During Corporal Hartung’s investigation, he learned that a subject forced entry into his ex-girlfriend’s house, struck her and attempted to steal her purse. Arrested was Bing Yang Wang, a 47-year-old resident of El Cerrito. Wang was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on battery and burglary charges and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal complaint against Wang with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On 6/1/2003, at approximately 0013 hours, Officer Zink stopped a vehicle for not having a rear license plate near the intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Fairmount Avenue. During the stop Officer Zink discovered that the front passenger was on probation for a narcotics violation. A subsequent search of the passenger uncovered a small amount of suspected heroin and two fraudulent credit cards. Arrested was William Lavon Cherry III, a 23-year-old resident of Chico. Cherry was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on narcotic and fraud charges and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal complaint against Cherry with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On 6/1/2003, at approximately 0900 hours, Officer Wong was dispatched to Albertsons at the El Cerrito Plaza to investigate a disturbance between a customer and store employee. Officer Wong learned that the customer had consumed some food inside the store and left without making payment. Additionally, the customer had no money in his possession and lied about his name and date of birth. Arrested was Derrick Levone Miller, a 33-year-old resident of Oakland. Miller was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for shoplifting w/priors, commercial burglary, false impersonation, parole violation and also for another unrelated warrant. Miller was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal complaint against Miller with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On 6/3/2003, at approximately 1012 hours, Officer Leone observed a vehicle traveling southbound on San Pablo Avenue, near Cutting Boulevard. Officer Leone felt that the driver and occupants were quite young and ran the license plate. When Officer Leone learned that the Toyota Camry had been reported stolen out of Hayward, he followed the vehicle until additional officers could assist him with stopping the car. The vehicle was followed to the intersection of Wesley and Walnut Avenue where the car came to a stop and all the occupants were detained. Arrested were three Hispanic male juveniles; two of which resided in San Pablo and the driver, who resides in Richmond. All were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and later released to a parent. The El Cerrito Police Department will forward this case to the Contra Costa County Juvenile Probation Department for disposition. On 6/4/2003, at approximately 1943 hours, Officer Boutain responded to the 1400 block of Richmond Street to investigate a report of a disturbance. During his investigation Officer Boutain determined that a male subject had battered and injured a female that he had had a dating relationship with. Arrested was Richard Kane Wheeler, a 40-year-old male resident of San Pablo. Wheeler was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a charge of battery (corporal injury) and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 6/4/2003, at approximately 2125 hours, Officer Shaman responded to Trader Joe’s at the El Cerrito Plaza to investigate a reported theft. A customer had purportedly used a counterfeit $100.00 Traveler’s Check in an attempt to purchase $3.00 worth of cherries. During the transaction, the customer became uneasy and left. She was later located a short distance away and returned to the business. Arrested was Octavia Dionta Keel, a 20-year-old resident of Hayward. Keel was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a charge of check forgery and released pending further investigation. The El Cerrito Police Department later obtained a misdemeanor complaint against Keel with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On 6/6/2003, at approximately 0011 hours, Officer Shaman responded to the 200 block of San Carlos on report of a suspicious person seen in the area. Officer Shaman located the subject a short distance away and contacted him. The subject was found to be in possession of stolen checks, burglar tools and a small amount of marijuana. Additionally, the subject had attempted to pass for his brother by providing the police with his name and address. When his true identity was learned, so was his parole violation warrant. Arrested was David Brian Fleming, a 34-year-old resident of San Pablo. Fleming was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for the above violations and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal felony complaint against Fleming with the District Attorney’s Office. On 6/9/2003, at approximately 1700 hours, Officer Zink responded to Walgreen’s, located at 11565 San Pablo Avenue to investigate a shoplifter in-custody. A subject had entered the store, selected a backpack and proceeded to load items inside. The subject was detained by store employees outside the store when the subject exited without making payment. Arrested was Carl Ray Cotright, a 54-year-old resident of Richmond. Cotright was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for theft with priors and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal felony complaint against Cotright with the District Attorney’s Office. On June 9, 2003 at approximately 1430 hours a sixteen year old male El Cerrito High School student, currently under suspension, returned to ECHS and robbed a fellow student of his wallet at gunpoint. The suspect was identified by name, and after subsequent investigation was arrested on June 12th at his home. After booking at the El Cerrito Police Department the juvenile was transferred to the Juvenile Detention Facility in Martinez. On June 13th at approximately 2000 hours, Officer Zink of the El Cerrito Police Department responded to the Target store in the 11400 block of San Pablo Ave. on the report of an adult male in custody for shoplifting. Officer Zink took custody of Alvin Maurice Oxner 45 year old of Richmond. Oxner was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking he was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for theft with prior charges and an outstanding felony warrant. On Saturday June 14th, 2003 at approximately 1:01 pm, El Cerrito officers arrested Finn Kraemer (19) of El Cerrito for battery against his father and damaging a telephone. It was determined during the investigation that Finn Kraemer struck his father with a closed fist and damaged a telephone to prevent him from contacting the police. Finn Kraemer was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Main Detention Facility in Martinez, CA to await arraignment. On June 17, 2003 at approximately 1810 hours Takeia Knockum entered the Barnes and Noble bookstore at the El Cerrito Plaza and attempted to pay for merchandise with a forged travelers check. Officer Shaman responded and detained Knockum. Knockum was arrested and initially identified herself as another woman. After booking Knockum was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On Wednesday June 18th, 2003 at approximately 3:00 pm, El Cerrito Officers R. Alvarez and D. Tam conducted an investigation into fraudulent use of a credit card and possession of a counterfeit California Identification Card. It was determined that an individual purchased merchandise from Albertsons Grocery, 1000 El Cerrito Plaza, with a stolen credit card and fraudulent identification card. Arrested was Bobby Robertson (29) of Richmond. Bobby Robertson was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Main Detention Facility in Martinez, CA to await arraignment. On June 19th at approximately 1400 hours, Officer Tam responded to the Safeway store in the 10600 block of San Pablo Ave. on the report of an adult male attempting to leave the store after shoplifting. Officer Tam detained Kenneth Lamar Lemmons 36 year old male of Richmond outside the store. Lemmons was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. He was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for theft with prior charges. On June 21st at approximately 1900 hours, Officer D. Alvarez of the El Cerrito Police Department responded to the Target store in the 11400 block of San Pablo Ave. on the report of two female adults in custody for shoplifting. Officer Alvarez took custody of Lanetra Beard 19 years old of Antioch, and Keianna Fluker 20 years old of Richmond. Both were transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. Fluker was released with a citation to appear and Beard was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for theft with prior charges. On Saturday June 21st, 2003 at approximately 10:05 pm, Officer Zink responded to Target, located at 11450 San Pablo Ave., to investigate a shoplifter in custody. A subject had entered the store, opened and concealed merchandise, and attempted to leave without paying. The subject was detained by store security. Arrested was Lamar Robinson, a 23 year old resident of Richmond. Robinson was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for theft with priors and transported to the Main Detention Facility in Martinez. On June 22nd at approximately 1645 hours, Officer Tang of the El Cerrito Police Department responded to the Target store in the 11400 block of San Pablo Ave. on the report of a female adult in custody for shoplifting. Officer Tang took custody of Sharon Daniels 33 years old of Richmond. She was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. On June 23rd at approximately 2200 hours, Officer Greenwood responded to the Albertson’s store in the El Cerrito Plaza on the report of an adult female in custody for shoplifting. Officer Greenwood took Martin, Denise 38 years old of Richmond into custody and she was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. On June 24, 2003, at approximately 12:18 am, Officer M. Greenwood conducted a parole search at a residence in Richmond, CA (2800 block of Carlson Blvd.). During the search, Officer M. Greenwood located destructive devices in the form of illegal fireworks and explosives. Arrested was Robert Martin Avelar, a 32 year-old resident of Richmond. Avelar was booked and transported to the Main Detention Facility in Martinez where he is being held on charges of being in possession of destructive devices. June 25th at approximately 0245 hours, Officer Barr responded to 6200 block of Cypress Ave. on the report of an auto burglary in progress and the suspect had fled into the backyards- of the residences in the area. Officer Barr located Buendia, Ramon 23 years old of Richmond. He was identified at the scene and stolen property was located. Buendia was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking he was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility on auto burglary charges. A complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On Wednesday June 25th, 2003 at approximately 5:09 pm, El Cerrito Police Officers responded to a forgery in progress at Bank of the West, 11100 San Pablo Ave. Officer Leone’s investigation revealed that two individuals were attempting to cash counterfeit checks. Arrested were Demond Finley (28) of Oakland and Carmen Mitchell (31) of Richmond for check forgery. Demond Finley and Carmen Mitchell were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Main Detention Facility in Martinez, CA to await arraignment. On 6/27/2003, at approximately 1530 hours, officers from this department responded to the area of Bank of America upon report of a subject who had entered the bank and attempted to deposit checks from closed accounts. The total of the two checks was $16,000.00. The subject had fled just prior to police arrival but was later located along with his associate at the intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Waldo Avenue. Arrested were Cuong Hai Phu Nguyen, a 29-year-old resident of Fremont and Phong Thanh Mac, a 31-year-old resident of San Jose. Both were arrested and booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on forgery and conspiracy charges and later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On June 28, 2003, at approximately 20:20 hours, Officer Zink responded to an employee theft that occurred at the Target store over a month long period in the amount of $1020.00. Arrested was Donte Taylor, a 20 year-old resident of Richmond. Taylor was booked and transported to the Main Detention Facility in Martinez where he is being held on charges of embezzlement. On 6/28/2003, at approximately 2330 hours, Officer Zink stopped a bicyclist for a Vehicle Code Violation. The bicyclist was on active probation and during a probation search of the bicyclist a small amount of methamphetamine was discovered. Arrested was Nathan Everette Randolph, a 37-year-old resident of Richmond. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a criminal complaint against Randolph with the District Attorney’s Office.
