On Tuesday July 1st, 2003 at approximately 6:40 pm, El Cerrito Police Officer Bonini passed an occupied stolen vehicle. The vehicle quickly disappeared from sight until it was again discovered several blocks away. Officer Bonini located the driver of the vehicle walking through the nearby Terrace Motel parking lot. The driver, Sean Alston (33) of Berkeley, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle. While circulating in the area, Officer Shaman located the vehicle’s passenger and arrested Randy Calhoun (42) of Berkeley. Sean Alston was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Main Detention Facility in Martinez, CA to await arraignment. Randy Calhoun was released from custody, pending further investigation. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a criminal complaint with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On July 2nd at approximately 1900 hours, Officer Leone responded to the Longs Drugs store in the 10600 block of San Pablo Ave. on the report of an adult male in custody for shoplifting. Officer Leone took custody of Bunn, Marvin 48 years old of Oakland and transported him to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking Bunn was released with a citation to appear. A complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On Friday, July 4th, 2003 at approximately 9:00 pm, El Cerrito Police Officer Ian Wong located an individual with an outstanding warrant, during a pedestrian stop. Following her arrest, it was determined that the individual was in possession of a substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Tonya Harrison (23) of Albany was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Main Detention Facility in Martinez, CA to await arraignment. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a criminal complaint with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On July 5th at approximately 1900 hours, Officer Tang of the El Cerrito Police Department responded to the Target store in the 11400 block of San Pablo Ave. on the report of an adult male in custody for shoplifting. Officer Tang took custody of Duhon, Louis Michael 49 years old of Richmond and transported him to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking Duhon was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for theft with prior charges. A complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On 7/6/2003, at approximately 1954 hours, Officer Wentworth responded to the Target store, located at 11450 San Pablo Avenue, to investigate a report of a detained shoplifter. According to Target employees, a subject selected and concealed merchandise valued at approximately $132.00 and left the store without making payment. Arrested was Charlesetta Marie Wash, a 22-year-old female resident of Richmond. When Wash was brought to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking, an inventory of her property where Officer Wentworth discovered suspected methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia. Wash was booked on theft and narcotic violations and released pending laboratory analysis. The El Cerrito Police Department will submit this case to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office to seek a complaint against Wash. On Wednesday July 9, 2003 at approximately 1:15pm Corporal Garman conducted an investigation into the status of a vehicle occupied by two individuals near 11645 San Pablo Avenue. Corporal Garman determined that the vehicle was a rental vehicle stolen out of San Jose on May 17th. Corporal Garman arrested Sherman Dukes, a parolee (39) of Oakland for possession of a stolen vehicle and booked him into the County jail. The passenger was arrested on an outstanding warrant. On 7/09/2003, at approximately 2225 hours, Officer Leone responded to Target to investigate a report of embezzlement. According to a Target employee, a female associate had been caught on video tape stealing money from her register. The internal investigation revealed that the employee had stolen over $1,300.00 over a period of several days. Arrested was a 17 year-old female resident of Berkeley who was booked on a charge of embezzlement and released to her parent. On 7/11/2003, at approximately 1800 hours, Officer Wentworth responded to the Target store, located at 11450 San Pablo Avenue, to investigate a report of a detained shoplifter. According to Target employees, a subject selected and concealed merchandise valued at approximately $800.00 and left the store without making payment. Arrested was a 14-year-old female resident of San Pablo who was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for grand theft and later released to her parent The El Cerrito Police Department will submit this case to the Contra Costa County Juvenile Probation Department for disposition. On 7/15/2003, at approximately 1930 hours, Officer Shaman responded to Albertson’s, located at 1000 El Cerrito Plaza, to investigate a report of a detained shoplifter. According to Albertson’s, a subject selected and concealed merchandise valued at approximately $50.00 and left the store without making payment. Arrested was Nehemiah Joseph Killingsworth, a 43 year-old resident of Richmond who was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felony charge of theft with priors and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 7/16/2003, at approximately 1630 hours, officers from this department responded to 5219 Cypress Avenue to investigate a 9-1-1 call that was upgraded to an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon their arrival, officers determined that three people had been involved in an altercation whereby one subject suffered an apparent minor stab wound to his chest. The subject who suffered the wound also claimed to have been struck in the head with a mop handle. Arrested at the scene was Nancy Jo Pearson, a 53-year-old resident of El Cerrito and Steven Bradley Binder, a 29-year-old resident of El Cerrito. Binder was taken into custody several blocks from the scene by Detective Zink following a brief foot pursuit. During his failed attempt to flee, Binder unsuccessfully attempted to dispose of a bag that contained over an ounce of suspected methamphetamine and packaging material. Both subjects were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on felony charges that included assault and narcotic violations. Binder also had an active warrant for his arrest for a parole violation. On 7/17/2003, at approximately 2032 hours, Officer Caputo responded the intersection of Liberty Street and Eureka Avenue to investigate a report of a collision. Upon his arrival, Officer Caputo determined that the collision resulted in injury to a passenger of one of the vehicles. Officer Caputo contacted the driver of said vehicle and suspected that he had been drinking. Following a PAS (Preliminary Alcohol Screening) Officer Caputo’s suspicions were confirmed. The driver was subsequently arrested for felony D.U.I. driving while under the influence. Arrested was a Christopher Garrett Hamilton, an 18-year-old resident of Middletown, California. He was booked at the El Cerrito Police department on a charge of 23153(b) CVC (felony D.U.I) and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 7/17/2003, at approximately 2150 hours, Officer Barr responded to Target, located at 11450 San Pablo Avenue, to investigate a report of a detained shoplifter. According to Target, a subject selected and concealed merchandise valued at approximately $41.00 and left the store without making payment. Arrested was Willie Albert Bowie, a 50-year-old resident of Richmond who was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felony charge of theft with priors, and parole violation/hold and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On Thursday July 17th, 2003 at approximately 3:15 pm, El Cerrito Police Detectives Keith and Pierson concluded an investigation into the use of stolen Guitar Center checks. It was determined that two individuals cashed stolen checks at Check Center-Richmond and California Check Cashing in El Cerrito. Arrested were Travis Overton (21) of Richmond and Eugene Williams, Jr. (19) of Richmond. Travis Overton and Eugene Williams, Jr. were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Main Detention Facility in Martinez, CA to await arraignment. On 7/21/2003, at approximately 0150 hours, Officer Leone observed a vehicle traveling southbound on San Pablo Avenue near Panama Avenue with no headlights on. Officer Leone stopped the vehicle on Sacramento Avenue, just west of San Pablo Avenue. When Officer Leone learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen, he awaited cover and then took all three occupants into custody. Arrested was Raven Anderson, a 20-year-old resident of El Cerrito and two female juveniles. All three were released after booking. This case will be submitted to the Contra Costa County Juvenile Probation Department and the District Attorney’s Office. Report Number 03-14354
On 7/21/2003, at approximately 0940 hours, Sgt. Cliatt observed a suspicious vehicle parked on Blake Street near Elm Street. The vehicle was unoccupied and unknown to the area. Sgt. Cliatt checked the license plate and discovered that the ’92 Honda Accord had been reported stolen out of Pinole on July 19th. Sgt. Cliatt coordinated a stake-out of the vehicle and soon after observed a male subject enter the car through the driver’s door. As officers converged on the suspect, the suspect exited and began to quickly walk away. The suspect finally yielded to Corporal Hartung’s order to stop. The suspect claimed that he had only entered the car to retrieve a cell phone charger for someone else. Arrested was Michael Joey De La Campa, a 26-year-old resident of Richmond. He was booked at the El Cerrito Police department on a charge of auto theft and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 7/21/2003, at approximately 1550 hours, Officer Greenwood responded to the Silver Screen Video, a business located at 3010 El Cerrito Plaza, to investigate a reported strong-armed robbery. During his investigation, Officer Doty responded to conduct an area search for suspects. The victim alleged that he was accosted by three subjects near the Well's Fargo Bank (El Cerrito Plaza) who demanded that he surrender his money to avoid vandalism to his bicycle. Fearing their threats, the victim gave the suspects his money. Officer Doty located and detained three subjects on Brighton Avenue in Albany who matched the descriptions provided by Officer Greenwood. The victim was brought to the detainee's location and identified them as the perpetrators. Arrested were three male juveniles who reside in the city of Berkeley. All three were booked on a charge of robbery. One suspect was taken to Juvenile Hall in Martinez; the other two were released to parent/guardian. The El Cerrito Police Department will submit this case to the Contra Costa County Juvenile Probation Department for disposition. On 7/21/2003, at approximately 2130 hours, Officer Wentworth responded the 1300 block of Brewster Drive upon report of domestic violence. The victim (wife) alleged that her husband battered her resulting in injury. Officers observed injuries to the victim that seemed to corroborate her claim. Arrested was a 32-year-old resident of El Cerrito. He was booked at the El Cerrito Police department on a charge of domestic violence/corporal injury to spouse and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The names of the involved parties are being withheld to protect the privacy of the victim. On 7/24/2003, at approximately 2045 hours, Officer Caputo and Corporal Cliatt observed two subjects walking westbound on Wenk Avenue. When the officers attempted to contact them, the two fled on foot. Officers gave chase and caught one subject a short distance away. Information was gathered that led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle that was parked at the Terrace Motel. The other subject was not located. Arrested was Justin Michael Wilborn, a 22-year-old resident of San Pablo. He was booked at the El Cerrito Police department on a charge of auto theft and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 7/25/2003, at approximately 0200 hours, Officer Caputo was patrolling the parking lot of the Del Norte Apartments when he observed a subject wondering in front of the floor-level businesses. When Officer Caputo contacted him, the subject admitted he had a "crack pipe" in his possession. During a search, both a pipe and suspected cocaine was located on the detainee. Arrested was Michael Everett James, a 47- year-old female resident of El Cerrito. Himanen was booked on charges of possession of both controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. James was released pending laboratory analysis. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek formal complaints with the Contra Costa County District Attorney when the laboratory analysis confirms that the seized evidence was cocaine. On 7/27/2003, at approximately 2300 hours, Officer Wentworth responded to Target upon receipt of reported shoplifters in custody. Three subjects had alleged to have entered the store together and then proceeded to disperse to different departments inside Target. All three committed theft inside the store and were taken into custody by store security. The combined value of the items stolen was in excess of $551.00. Arrested were Bertha Chanett Williams, 21 years, Booshondia Deann Daniel, 21 years, and a 17 year old female juvenile, all residents of Richmond. All three were booked on a variety of theft and conspiracy charges. Williams and Daniel were also booked on an additional charge of using a false identity and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 7/27/2003, at approximately 2300 hours, Officer Leone was patrolling the parking lot of the Mira Vista Country Club when he came upon a parked vehicle occupied by two. Due to the late hour and the fact that the business was closed, Officer Leone contacted the occupants. A warrant check revealed that the car owner had a warrant out for his arrest. The passenger was also arrested when suspected methamphetamine was located inside her purse. Arrested was Tanya Himanen, a 32 year-old female resident of El Cerrito. Himanen was booked on a charge of possession of controlled substance and released per citation. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek formal complaints with the Contra Costa County District Attorney when the laboratory analysis confirms that the seized evidence was methamphetamine. On 7/28/2003, at approximately 1253 hours, Officer Tam observes a vehicle parked on Alta Punta Avenue near Edith Street. A check of the license plate revealed that the car had been previously reported stolen to Hercules P.D. on 7/22/2003. Officer Tam staked-out the vehicle until a female emerged from the adjacent residence and entered the vehicle. Arrested was Mony So, a 28-year-old resident of El Cerrito. So was booked at the El Cerrito Police department on a charge of auto theft and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department later submitted this case to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office where they declined to prosecute So. On 7/28/2003, at approximately 1650 hours, Corporal Horgan assisted Officer Savine who had detained three subjects that had reportedly been seen in the rear yard of a residence. Corporal Horgan’s investigation led him to conclude that the adult and two juveniles had entered the yard in an attempt to burglarize a residence located in the 1100 block of Lawrence Court. Palm prints were discovered on the exterior of a rear window that indicated that entry into the home had been attempted. Arrested was Omar Dorsey Smallwood, a 20 year-old resident of Richmond and two other male juveniles ages 13 and 15. All three were booked on a charge of attempted 1st degree burglary. Smallwood was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility and the two juveniles were released to a parent/guardian. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek formal complaints with the Contra Costa County District Attorney against Omar. This report will also be submitted to the Contra Costa County Juvenile Probation Department for disposition of the two juveniles. On 7/29/2003, at approximately 2130 hours, Officer Caputo responded to Albertson’s to investigate a reported shoplifter in custody. According to an Albertson’s employee, a subject selected and concealed merchandise and left the grocery store without making payment. Arrested was Cleo Gabriel Terrell, a 42-year-old resident of Oakland. Terrell was booked on a charge of theft with priors and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek formal complaints with the Contra Costa County District Attorney against Terrell. On 7/30/2003, at approximately 0210 hours, Officers Barr and Boutain observed a vehicle owned by Juanecia Adams, who was wanted for having an outstanding warrant, at the Freeway Motel, on San Pablo Avenue. As the officers prepared to enter Adams’ room at the motel, a person driving a truck entered the motel parking lot. After the truck came to a stop, the driver was contacted and identified as Marsha Hunter, the mother of Juanecia Adams. Officer Barr speculated that Hunter was under the influence of narcotics and performed a search of the vehicle. Upon inspection, Officer Barr located suspected drug paraphernalia and cocaine. Arrested were Juanecia Adams, a 29-year-old resident of El Cerrito, and Marsha Hunter, a 46-year-old resident of Richmond. Adams was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for an outstanding warrant and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 7/31/2003, at approximately 1733 hours, Officer Barr responded to a call at the 8600 block of Don Carol investigated a reported residential burglary. Forced entry was used to gain access into the house and various items were taken. On 08/02/2003, Officer Botta, of the San Pablo Police Department, contacted Corporal Garman regarding two suspects arrested during a suspicious vehicle detention. The suspects were found to be in possession of stolen property which connected them to the Don Carol burglary. Corporal Garman assisted in the investigation and recovered additional stolen property from the impounded vehicle. The items recovered were identified by the victim of the Don Carol burglary. Arrested were Ashley Tuffnell, 19 years, and Marie Oeser, 20 years, both residents of Rodeo. Tuffnell and Oeser were booked on a charge of burglary and were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek formal complaints with the Contra Costa County District Attorney.
