On Tuesday 12/30/03 at 1554 hours El Cerrito Police Officer Caputo responded to the Target store located at 11450 San Pablo Ave. in El Cerrito on the report of a subject being detained for shoplifting. Officer Caputo conducted an investigation and arrested Carli T. Schenck (21) of Berkeley. Officer Caputo determined that Schenck entered the business and concealed numerous items in two backpacks then attempted to exit the business without paying for the property. Schenck was arrested and booked into the county jail in Martinez charged with felony grand theft.

On Sunday, 12/28/03 Officer Dominic Boutain was dispatched to the Target store in El Cerrito on the report of a shoplifter being detained by Target security. Arrested at the time was Thalisia E. Smith, a 19 year old black female from Oakland. Ms. Smith was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for robbery and grand theft and she was taken to the Contra Costa County Detention Facility in Martinez. A criminal complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

On 12/27/03, Corporal Susan Garman responded to the Ross clothing store at 2000 El Cerrito Plaza on the report of a shoplifter detained by store employees. Corporal Garman accepted the citizen’s arrest of Roberto Ernesto Burneo, an Hispanic male adult and resident of Albany. Mr. Burneo was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on the charge of burglary and taken to the detention facility in Martinez. A criminal complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

On Sunday, 12/27/03, El Cerrito Police Officer Aaron Leone was dispatched to 2000 El Cerrito Plaza, the Ross store, on the report of a shoplifter detained by store personnel. Arrested at the time was Miguel Angel Zarate, a 37 year old Hispanic male from San Pablo. Mr. Zarate was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for burglary and taken to the Contra Costa County Detention Facility in Martinez. A criminal complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

On 12/27/2003, Officer Carcione assisted Loss Prevention Officers at the Target Store in El Cerrito, with the apprehension of a suspected shoplifter. Loss prevention officers at Target placed Orlandos Bacon, a 38 year old black male from Berkeley, under citizen’s arrest for petty theft. Mr. Bacon tried to leave the store with merchandise that was not paid for. Mr. Bacon was booked for petty theft with prior petty thefts and transported to the Contra Costa County Detention Facility in Martinez. A criminal complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

On 12/27/03 at approximately 8:00 am, Officer Aaron Leone conducted a traffic enforcement stop of a vehicle at South 56th Street and Jefferson Ave. Officer Leone subsequently arrested the driver, identified as Anthony Gerald Wilson, a black male adult and resident of San Leandro for possession of a controlled substance. Mr. Wilson was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for possession of suspected base cocaine and released. A criminal complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

On Friday, 12/26/03 at approximately 1430 hours, Officer Jeff Doty responded to the Target store located at 11450 San Pablo Ave in El Cerrito. Officer Doty responded to a report of a shoplifter detained by store security. Officer Doty accepted the citizen’s arrest of Thomas Joseph Clark, a black male adult from San Jose.

During the investigation, Mr. Clark was determined to be on parole for prior theft offenses. Mr. Clark was booked for petty theft with prior petty thefts and he was held pursuant to his parole status. Mr. Clark was taken to the Contra Costa County Detention Facility in Martinez. A criminal complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

Report no. 03-25318

On Friday 12/26/03 at approximately 1:15 pm, Officer Ryan Carcione responded to the 1400 block of South 56th Street on the initial report of a domestic disturbance. Officer Carcione determined a violation of a domestic restraining order had occurred and subsequently arrested Richard Lee Anderson, a black male adult and resident of El Cerrito. Mr. Anderson was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for violating a restraining order.

At the completion of booking, Mr. Anderson was taken to the detention facility in Martinez. A criminal complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

El Cerrito Police Department Report Number 03-25299

On Friday, 12/26/03, Officer Chris Purdy was patrolling the 1000 block of Liberty St. Officer Purdy noticed a suspicious vehicle backed into an apartment parking stall. A check of the license plate and vehicle identification number showed the car was reported stolen to the Alameda Police Department. Officer Purdy and other El Cerrito officers conducted a surveillance of the vehicle and subsequently arrested Dosia Dean Arnold, a black male adult from San Pablo.

During the arrest, Mr. Arnold was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine and narcotic paraphernalia. Mr. Arnold was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and for an outstanding warrant for auto theft. Mr. Arnold was taken to the Contra Costa County Detention Facility in Martinez. A criminal complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

On Wednesday, 12/24/03 at approximately 1:00 pm, Officer Gilbert Tang responded to the Long’s Drug Store at 670 El Cerrito Plaza on the report of a woman attempting to fill a fraudulent prescription. Officer Tang arrived at the scene and the female fled, running through the El Cerrito Plaza. Officer Tang subsequently arrested the female, identified as Carie Lee Mathis, a white female from Napa. Ms. Mathis was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud. After booking, Ms. Mathis was taken to the Contra Costa County Detention Facility in Martinez. A criminal complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

On 12/22/2003 at approximately 2240 hours Officer Wong conducted a routine traffic enforcement stop in the 5900 block of Central Ave. on a 1999 Honda Accord for no license plates. The driver was identified as Patrick Polk 21yrs old of Richmond. During the investigation by Officer Wong he determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen on 10-18-2003 to the campus police at Contra Costa College. Polk was taken into custody and booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

A complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

Report no. 03-25122

On Monday December 22, 2003 Copeland’s Sporting Goods located at 300 El Cerrito Plaza reported the theft of two bicycles valued at approximately $2600.00. The El Cerrito Police Department conducted an investigation into the theft of the bicycles and identified the suspect as Toby R. Parks (34) of Kensington. Officers learned that Mr. Parks took the bikes for a test ride with the assistance of his 8 year old daughter and never returned. On January 3, 2004 Mr. Parks returned the property to the El Cerrito Police Department and was arrested for felony Grand Theft. He was booked into the county jail in Martinez.

Report no. 03-25048

On Sunday 12/21/2003 El Cerrito officers responded to the Guitar Center 10300 San Pablo Ave. on the report of a suspect attempting to sell a stolen guitar and amplifier. Officers investigating the call determined that the items had been reported stolen to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department the week prior. The owner of the property identified the items and reported that they were stolen from his residence during a burglary. Officers arrested Anthony Baumgardner (24) of Richmond for possession of stolen property. Mr. Baumgardner was booked into the county jail for possession of stolen property and a parole violation.

Report no. 03-25032

On 12/21/2003 at approximately 1400 hours Officer Leone responded to the 500 block of Lexington Ave. on the report of a 911 call received with a woman screaming in the background of the call. On his arrival he contacted the residents at the address. After his investigation Hiroshi Akiyama 39yrs old of El Cerrito was arrested for spousal battery. The victim received minor injuries and refused medical attention. Akiyama was booked on above charge and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

On 12/21/2003 at approximately 1020 hours Officer Doty responded to the 5700 blk of Alta Punta Ave. on the report of a battery. On his arrival he contacted the involved parties. After interviewing them, Mony So 28yr old female of El Cerrito was transported to Doctor’s Hospital in San Pablo for minor injuries. After her medical release she was arrested for child endangerment. She was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Report no. 03-24934

On 12/20/2003, at approximately 1249 hours, El Cerrito Police Officers responded to a forgery in progress at the El Cerrito Branch of Bank of America. Upon their arrival, officers found a suspect fleeing the bank. Officers apprehended the suspect and determined that he was in possession of fourteen counterfeit checks belonging to furniture and transportation companies. Officers determined that another suspect, working with the apprehended suspect, attempted to cash a counterfeit payroll check at the bank. This suspect fled the bank, after the first, and is still at large.

Arrested was Tyke Darnell Moore, a 19-year-old resident of Fairfield. Tyke Moore was booked for possession of counterfeit checks, conspiracy to commit forgery, and resisting arrest. This case will be submitted to the District Attorney’s office for prosecution.

Report no. 03-24483

On Saturday 12/13/2003 Officer Leone observed an occupied stolen 1986 Toyota Camry driving in the area of the El Cerrito Plaza. Officer Leone conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle as it pulled into the Plaza. Three juveniles from Richmond were arrested for possession of the stolen vehicle and booked at the El Cerrito Police Department. During the investigation it was determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen to the Richmond Police Department on the 12th.

Report no. 03-24325

On Thursday December 11, 2003 the El Cerrito Police conducted an investigation into the reported embezzlement of funds from the Marshall’s Department Store at 10759 San Pablo Ave. During the investigation it was determined that a store employee had purchased 15 shop smart gift cards with a stolen credit card for a loss totaling almost $5000.00. Officers arrested Jeanette Marie Mims (31) of Richmond for Embezzlement and booked her into the county jail in Martinez.

Report no. 03-24306

On 12/10/2003, at approximately 2241 hours, Officer Albrandt was patrolling in the area of Central Avenue and Carlson Boulevard when he observed a Range Rover that was parked in the ’76 Station. A check of the plate revealed that the car had been reported stolen. The driver and two passengers were taken into custody.

Arrested were Alfred Lonzo Jones (42) Oakland, Derek Anthony Baddie (42) Oakland and Adele Sarah Colby (51) El Sobrante. All three were booked on a charge of auto theft. The passengers, Baddie and Colby were released and the driver, Jones, was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Report nos. 03-24263, 03-24265

On 12/10/2003, at approximately 0337 hours, Officer Molica responded to the 8500 block of Roberta Drive to investigate a reported auto burglary where property, including a laptop computer had been removed from the passenger compartment. During an area search, Officer Escobar, of the Kensington Police Department affected a pedestrian stop on a subject a short distance from where the burglary had occurred. The subsequent investigation stemming from this stop resulted in the recovery of the stolen items and the recovery of a stolen vehicle which the pedestrian had parked a short distance away.

Arrested was Aaron Todd Zimmerman, a 25-year-old resident of Hercules. Zimmerman cooperated with the police and provided information that helped clear four additional auto burglary/theft from auto reports, including one that occurred in Kensington. Zimmerman was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a variety of theft related offenses and possession of stolen property and was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Report no. 03-24247

On 12/09/03, Officer Scot Barr responded to the Target store at 11450 San Pablo Ave on the report of a shoplifting suspect in the custody of loss prevention officers. Officer Barr accepted the arrest of a 13 year old black male juvenile and booked the juvenile at the El Cerrito Police Department. The juvenile is a resident of El Cerrito and he was booked for burglary and released to his family. A criminal complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

Report no. 03-24229

On 12/09/2003, at approximately 1300 hours, Officer Rogelio Alvarez was dispatched to the El Cerrito High School to investigate a reported robbery. According to Officer Small of the West County Unified School District Police, he was detaining a student that strong-armed robbed another student of his money.

Arrested was a 16-year-old male student and resident of Richmond. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felony charge of robbery and was later delivered to Juvenile Hall in Martinez.

The El Cerrito Police Department will submit this case to the Contra Costa County Juvenile Probation Office for disposition. Any question regarding this matter should be directed to Detective William Savko at (510) 215-4419.

On 12/09/2003 at approximately 0215 hours Officer Wong conducted a walking stop on a subject in the 10300 block of San Pablo Ave. The subject was identified as Brian Keirle 32yrs old of El Cerrito. It was determined that Keirle had an outstanding arrest warrant and further investigation that he was in possession of a controlled substance. He was taken into custody and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.

Report no. 03-24153

On December 12th, 2003, Officer Purdy, of the El Cerrito Police Department, responded to an attempted forgery at Bank of America. During his investigation, Officer Purdy discovered that the suspect convinced a family member to attempt to cash a fraudulent check, written on a closed account. During his arrest, the suspect was also found to be in possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. The family member was detained and released at the scene.

Arrested was Paul Griffin (20), of San Pablo, CA. Paul Griffin was booked and transported to county jail for on the charge of forgery. A complaint will be sought against Paul Griffin with the District Attorney’s Office.

On 12/07/2003, at approximately 1626 hours, Officer Purdy was dispatched to investigate a shoplift that had occurred at Target. According to Target employees, a subject selected merchandise and concealed the items inside a bag that he was carrying. The subject passed all the registers and the alarm sensors which activated.

Arrested was Craig Ballard, a 51-year-old resident of Richmond. Ballard was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on charges of theft with priors and was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility.

On 12/05/2003, at approximately 1470 hours, Officer Carcione was dispatched to investigate a fraud that had occurred at Target. According to Target employees, a subject attempted to purchase merchandise using a forged check and false identification.

Arrested was Patricia Odeal Lawson, a 37-year-old resident of Richmond. Lawson was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on charges of forgery and was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility.

On 12/05/2003, at approximately 1835 hours, Officer Caputo was dispatched to investigate a shoplift that had occurred at Target. According to Target employees, a subject selected merchandise and concealed the items inside a bag that he was carrying. The subject passed all the registers and the alarm sensors which activated.

Arrested was Carolyn Deloris Adams, a 41-year-old resident of Richmond. Adams was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on charges of theft with priors and was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Report no. 03-23795

On 12/02/03, Officer Rogelio Alvarez and Officer Dominic Boutain responded to the Albertson’s store at 1000 El Cerrito Plaza on the report of a subject violating a restraining order. The officers spoke with the subject and determined the conditions of a restraining order had been violated. The subject, identified as Jemar Pulliam, a black male adult and resident of Richmond, fought with the officers in an effort to avoid arrest.

Mr. Pulliam attempted to knee and kick the officers. Mr. Pulliam was subsequently arrested for assault on a peace officer and violating the existing restraining order. Mr. Pulliam was taken to the detention facility in Martinez and a criminal complaint will be sought with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

Report no. 03-22091

On November 4th, 2003, Officer R. Alvarez, of the El Cerrito Police Department, responded to an attempted forgery at Big Five Sporting Goods. During his investigation, Officer R. Alvarez determined that the suspect entered the store and attempted to make a purchase using a counterfeit credit card. When his purchase was declined, the suspect attacked the store manager and fled the establishment. Additional investigation, by the Detective Bureau, uncovered an earlier forgery, perpetrated by the suspect, at Payless Shoe Source. A warrant was issued for the suspect’s arrest.

On December 18th, 2003, Richmond Police Officers located and arrested the suspect. Arrested was Shawn Rafael Hamilton, 19, of Richmond, CA. Shawn Hamilton was booked and transported to county jail for forgery and assault. A complaint will be sought against Shawn Hamilton with the District Attorney’s Office.

Report no. 03-17285

On August 30, 2003, Officer Doty, of the El Cerrito Police Department, responded to an attempted forgery at Citibank. During Officer Doty’s investigation, it was discovered that the suspect attempted to cash a stolen check. When the tellers discovered the fraud, the suspect fled the bank leaving behind her Identification and ATM card. A warrant was issued for this suspect’s arrest. On November 24, 2003, El Cerrito Police Officers arrested the suspect at the San Francisco County Jail. During booking, it was discovered that the suspect, a previously convicted felon, was in possession of a pepper spray device.

Arrested was Edith Renina Clark (38), of Richmond, CA. Edith Clark was booked and transported to county jail for forgery and being a felon in possession of pepper spray. A complaint will be sought against Edith Clark with the District Attorney’s Office.
