On 8/29/2004, at approximately 2000 hours, Officer Stannich responded to the Carrow’s Restaurant to investigate a domestic disturbance. The investigation uncovered that a couple had been driving on the freeway when the male began to hit and injure his pregnant partner. The one-armed victim defended herself by spraying the suspect/driver with pepper spray. The couple pulled off the freeway and entered the Carrow’s lot. Arrested was Shaun Kenneth Wong, a 29-year-old resident of Vallejo. Wong was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felonious charge of domestic violence before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 8/29/2004, at approximately 1800 hours, Officer Stannich responded to Target to investigate the report of a shoplifter who was being detained. According to Target, the female had stolen some vitamins and cosmetics valued at $133.00. The female was contacted outside the store and brought to the security office where the items were recovered. Arrested was Sophia Serene Williams, a 33-year-old resident of San Pablo. Williams was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felonious charge of second degree burglary before she was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 8/29/2004, at approximately 0015 hours, Officer Boutain stopped a motorist near the intersection of Cutting Boulevard and San Pablo Avenue for a moving violation. During the stop, Officer Boutain located a plastic bag in the glove compartment of the vehicle. Inside the bag, Officer Boutain observed suspected rock cocaine. Arrested was Larry Darnell Flucker Jr., a 20-year-old resident of San Pablo. Flucker was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felonious charge of drug possession and a variety of vehicle code violations before he was released per citation. The El Cerrito Police Department will submit the suspected drugs for laboratory analysis prior to seeking a formal complaint against Flucker. On 8/27/2004, at approximately 1815 hours, Officer Stannich responded to 3115 Yosemite Avenue to investigate a report of a disturbance. According to the victim and witnesses, a pregnant female had fled her boyfriend’s vehicle following an argument the two had. While arrangement were being made for the victim to call the police, the boyfriend ran up the witness’s doorway and began to pull the female back towards his car. The male fled when the police sirens sounded from nearby. The female was transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. The male suspect fled in his mustang but later surrendered himself to the El Cerrito Police Department on 8/30/2004 at 2000 hours. Arrested was Walter Lyson Green, a 19-year-old resident of Oakland. Green was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felonious charge of domestic violence before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 8/27/2004, at approximately 0017 hours, officers from this department responded to a residence, located in the 1700 block of Liberty Street. A female from this location called and reported that her husband had hit her. The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of the husband. Arrested was Kurt Andrew Hakmiller, a 38-year-old resident of El Cerrito. Hakmiller was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felonious charge of domestic violence before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 8/25/2004, at approximately 1423 hours, Corporal Horgan responded to Copeland’s at the El Cerrito Plaza upon receipt of a reported shoplift that had just occurred. A suspect had fled was soon detained by Officer Greenwood near the intersection of Liberty Street and Fairmount Avenue. According to Copeland’s, the suspect and an associate, entered the store with three shoeboxes and left with seven, setting off the alarm. Arrested was Rayshon Williams, a 30-year-old transient. Williams was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felonious charge of second degree burglary. During booking it was learned that Williams was also wanted by the California Department of Correction as a parolee at large. Upon completion of booking, Williams was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 8/24/2004, at approximately 1947 hours, Richard Curtis Applegate, a 35-year-old resident of El Cerrito was arrested pursuant to a Ramey warrant for narcotics violations. Last year detectives served a search warrant at Applegate’s grandfather’s house on Manila Avenue. During the search, crystal methamphetamine was located and seized. Applegate has been on the run ever since until he was arrested at 7519 Leviston. Applegate was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department pursuant to his arrest warrant before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 8/22/2004, at approximately 2257 hours, Officer Bell arrested Jose Alberto Ruiz-Rodriguez. His arrest stemmed from an incident that occurred two days earlier involving his ex-girlfriend (and mother of his child) and her new boyfriend. According to statements made by the ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend, Ruiz-Rodriguez rammed his vehicle into the back of their vehicle while near the intersection of Cutting Boulevard and San Pablo Avenue. The vehicle sustained minor damage and nobody was injured. Ruiz-Rodriguez was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felonious charge of assault with a deadly weapon before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal complaint against Ruiz-Rodriguez with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On 8/21/2004, at approximately 1654 hours, Officer Hoffman arrested Henry DeSean Adams, a 20-year-old resident of Richmond. Adams was arrested as a suspect in a robbery that occurred on the BART path near Blake Street Minutes prior to his arrest; an elderly female was attacked and robbed while walking on the BART path. She was transported by ambulance to Kaiser Hospital in Richmond where she was treated for her injuries. Henderson was detained by Loss Prevention personnel at Target after she concealed merchandise inside a bag and left the store. The stolen clothing items, which retailed for over $263.00, were recovered. On 8/18/2004, at approximately 0944 hours, Officer Wentworth arrested Othello Eugene Thomas Jr., a 29-year-old resident of Richmond. Thomas became the focus of a search after a resident of the 1300 block of Lawrence Street observed him inside her vehicle parked in her driveway. Thomas had entered the unlocked vehicle in an apparent effort to harvest the stereo from the dash. Thomas was located by Corporal Horgan near the intersection of Norvell Street and Manila Avenue where he was identified by the victim/witness. On 8/16/2004, at approximately 2052 hours, Officer Albrandt, while on Bike Patrol, stopped a bicyclist for having no light. The subject advised Officer Albrandt that he was on active parole for a drug conviction. During a consent search, Officer Albrandt located suspected tar heroin and took the subject into custody. Arrested was Randy Wallace, a 49-year-old transient. Wallace was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for possession of suspected controlled substance, possession of a syringe and a parole hold. Upon completion of booking, Wallace was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. According to Target, the suspect loaded a shopping cart with a variety of items that included a comforter, and a collection of clothing. Arrested was Taryn Yvette Usher, an 18-year-old resident of Oakland. On 8/15/2004, at approximately 1728 hours, Officer Barawed took custody of a male suspect who had been detained by Pastime Hardware employees for shoplifting. According to the manager, the suspect, who had stolen from them twice before, used a brown paper bag to conceal a variety of tools and then attempted to leave the business. Arrested was Willie Lee Dudley, a 40-year-old transient. On 8/12/2004, at approximately 1230 hours, officers and detectives of the El Cerrito Police Department executed a search warrant at 17 15th Street, Richmond. This address became the focus of an ongoing investigation following the arrests of three subjects for auto theft and auto burglary. During the search, suspected methamphetamine and a billy club were discovered inside the residence. Additional stolen items were also recovered during the search. Arrested were Jessica Zaragoza, 21, and Eduardo Ochoa, 18, both residents of Richmond. Both were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for possession of a deadly weapon and possession of suspected methamphetamine. Upon completion of booking, both subjects were released pending further investigation and laboratory analysis. On 8/10/2004, at approximately 0057 hours, Officer Purdy stopped a motorist in the parking lot of the Budget Inn (10621 San Pablo Avenue) for a vehicle code violation. During the stop, Officer Purdy confirmed that a passenger had a warrant for his arrest and took him into custody. Following his arrest, Officer Purdy located suspected contraband (cocaine) inside his pocket. Arrested was Keith Dwayne Hardaway, a 43-year-old resident of Oakland. On 8/8/2004, at approximately 1527 hours, Officer Caputo was conducting an area search for a shoplifter who fled from Ross at the El Cerrito Plaza. The suspect fled from police during a check at the Plaza BART Station but was soon located near Fairmount and Richmond Street. Arrested was Zaire Mahesh Johnson, a 19-year-old female resident of Oakland. Johnson was booked on a felony charge of theft with priors before she was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 8/8/2004, at approximately 0300 hours, Officer Stanich observed a male hitting a female in the head and face near the Terrace Motel. Officer Stanich detained the male suspect, Antonio Ingram, a 25 year old resident of Richmond for suspicion of battery. After further investigation it was revealed that Ingram and the female victim were living together at the Terrace Motel and had gotten into an argument. Officer Stanich determined the victim had given her a false name and she was a juvenile runaway from a group home. Ingram was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felonious charge of domestic violence before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. The juvenile victim was transported to Juvenile Hall on an outstanding warrant. On 8/6/2004, at approximately 0015 hours, Officer Bell responded to Target regarding a shoplifter who had been taken into custody. The suspect, according to Target, had concealed items inside a Target bag and brought them to Customer Service where she attempted to transact a return/refund. Arrested was Florcy Mae Harris, a 52-year-old resident of Richmond. Harris was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felony charge of theft with priors before she was transported to the Main Detention Facility in Martinez, CA. On 8/9/2004, at approximately 1402 hours, El Cerrito Police Department Officers responded to a report of a forgery in progress at a local bank. During the investigation, Officer Barawed determined that the suspect convinced his niece to attempt to cash a stolen and forged check. The suspect was located as he walked away from the bank. Officer Barawed’s investigation further revealed that the suspect apparently stole the check, involved in the forgery, while working as a janitor. Arrested was Larry Robinson, a 49-year-old resident of El Cerrito, for possession of stolen and forged checks. At the completion of booking, Larry Robinson was transported to the Main Detention Facility in Martinez, CA. Long’s alleged that the suspect had attempted to refund merchandise that had not been purchased. Arrested was David Lindsey, a 39-year-old resident of Richmond. Lindsey was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felony charge of 2nd degree burglary and an unrelated warrant before he was transported to the Main Detention Facility in Martinez, CA. On 8/3/2004, at approximately 2347 hours, officers from department responded to the 3300 block of Yosemite Avenue to investigate a domestic disturbance. The victim alleged that her husband had hit her during an argument. The husband contended that his wife was the aggressor and threw kitchen items at him and scratched his arms. Arrested was a 35-year-old resident of El Cerrito. The suspect was booked on a felony charge of spousal battery before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department sought a formal complaint with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On 8/3/2004, at approximately 1143 hours, Officer Tam responded to the 900 block of Kearney Street to investigate a report of a battery. Upon his arrival, Officer Tam quickly realized that the victim had actually been assaulted during an attempted robbery. The suspect was later located on the BART path near Stockton Avenue by Commander Hurley during an area search. Arrested was Bernard Tony Allen, a 49-year-old male resident of Richmond. Allen was booked on a felony charge of attempted robbery before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 8/24/2004, at approximately 1630 hours, a suspect surrendered himself to the El Cerrito Police Department for a burglary that he and two others allegedly committed at the Evangelical Free Church on June 1, 2004. The 14-year-old juvenile, whose name is being withheld, cooperated with police and confessed to his involvement. The June burglary occurred around 1700 hours and entry was made by removing a glass window. A Palm Pilot and cash were taken during the crime. The juvenile was booked and released to the custody of his mother. The El Cerrito Police Department will continue to investigate this crime to include the other two alleged suspects. At the completion of this investigation, the El Cerrito Police Department will submit this case to the District Attorney’s Office for disposition.
