On 11/28/2004, at approximately 1906 hours, officers from this department responded to Albertson’s at the El Cerrito Plaza when the store reported that two subjects, who earlier had cashed a counterfeit check, returned to the scene of the crime. Arrested were Tyrrrell Lasean Brooks, 22, from Alameda and Tavar Latrell Love, a 20-year-old resident of Oakland. Both were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on 2 counts of felony forgery before they were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek formal criminal complaints against Love and Brooks with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On 11/28/2004, at approximately 1803 hours, officers from this department were dispatched to 10458 San Pablo Avenue (Cliff’s Bar) on report of a fight. Upon arrival, officers determined that one of the parties involved had left just moments prior but returned while officers were still on scene. A witness advised officers that this subject had threatened another customer with a knife. The victim confirmed this account and the suspect was arrested and his knife was seized as evidence. Arrested was John Marta Torre, a 39-year-old resident of Richmond. Torre was booked on a felonious charge of assault with a deadly weapon before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal criminal complaint against Torre with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On 11/27/2004, at approximately 2045 hours, Officer Stanich responded to Target for a report of a shoplifter who had been taken into custody. According to Target, the suspect selected and concealed several items and left the store without making payment. Arrested was Versteen Young, a 53-year old resident of Fremont. Young was booked on a felonious charge of theft with priors before she was delivered to the Martinez Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek a formal criminal complaint against Young with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On 11/28/2004, at approximately 1803 hours, officers from this department responded to 5315 School Street to investigate a report of domestic violence/elder abuse. When officers arrived they contacted a male subject who was determined to be the perpetrator and grandson of the 75-year-old victim. According to the victim, her grandson has mentally and physically abused her on a regular basis. The most recent abuse occurred when he kicked her in the stomach. Arrested was Joshua Lamar Bell, a 22-year-old resident of El Cerrito. Bell was booked on a felonious charge of elder abuse before he was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 11/20/2004, at approximately 1715 hours, Corporal Bonini responded to Albertson’s at the El Cerrito Plaza following a report of a struggle with a shoplifter. Upon his arrival, Officer Hoffman had the suspect detained in front of Copeland’s. According to employees at Albertson’s, the suspect had concealed a large quantity of cold medicines in his back pack and then fled the store after being confronted by employees inside the store. Arrested was Alonzo D. Johnson, an 18-year-old resident of Oakland. Johnson was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on felony charges of robbery and 2nd degree burglary before he was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 11/19/2004, at approximately 1009 hours, officers from this department responded to Target upon report of a subject brandishing a knife. Upon Officer Barawed’s arrival, employees had a subject detained who they claim brandished a knife at them when he was confronted about the items they had concealed. Arrested was Keishona Iesha Sturgis, an 18-year-old resident of Richmond. Sturgis was booked on a felony charge of armed robbery with a knife before she was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 11/17/2004, at approximately 1250 hours, Officer Wentworth was dispatched to Target for a shoplifter in custody. According to Target, the suspect had concealed sets of infant clothing down the front of his pants and then left the store without making payment. Arrested was Michael Lawrence Boutte, a 40-year-old resident of Berkeley. Boutte was booked on a felony charge of theft with priors before he was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 11/16/2004, at approximately 1612 hours, Officer Barr arrested Tonisha Blackwell, a 20-year-old resident of Oakland after she attempted to cash a counterfeit check at Mechanic’s Bank in El Cerrito. Blackwell was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department for fraud/forgery before she was delivered to the Martinez Detention Facility. On 11/11/2004, at approximately 1915 hours, Officer Shaman was patrolling the 1900 block of Francisco Way when he observed a black 989 Saab parked along the east curb, just north of the driveway. Due to other stolen vehicle reports that have been associated with the residence, Officer Shaman ran the license plate through dispatch and learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen. Shortly after a subject exited the residence and entered the vehicle on the passenger side. After the vehicle drove away, officers stopped the car almost immediately and took the driver and passenger into custody. Arrested were Eugene Sevier, 41, San Pablo, and Lawrence Allen Kellems, a 35-year-old resident of Richmond. Both were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on felony charges. Sevier was additionally booked on a no bail warrant. Kellems was released pending review by the district attorney. The El Cerrito Police Department will seek complaints against Sevier and Kellems with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. On 11/5/2004, at approximately 1600 hours, Officer Barawed responded to Target for a report of a shoplifter who had been taken into custody. According to Target, the suspect selected and concealed several items and left the store without making payment. When employees contacted him, he physically resisted before he was subdued. The total amount of stolen property was $25.00. Arrested was a 17-year-old male resident of San Pablo. The juvenile was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department on a felonious charge of strong armed robbery before he was released to the custody of his mother The El Cerrito Police Department will submit this case to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, Juvenile Division for disposition. On November 3rd, 2004 officers responded to a disturbance in the 2900 Block of San Mateo Street. Upon their arrival they contacted the victim and learned that during an argument with his girlfriend he had been hit and bit by Cynthia Stoneking, a 23 year old female from Alameda. Stoneking had fled the scene prior to the officer’s arrival. A warrant was obtained for the arrest of Stoneking. On January 26th, 2005 detectives located Stoneking in Alameda and arrested her. She was released after questioning. The case will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s office prior to any charges to being filed.
