On March 30th, 2005 at 1640 hours an officer contacted a suspicious man at the intersection of Gladys Ave and Everett St. The officer determined that Michael Luoma, a 33 year old El Cerrito resident was on probation and also in possession of a Switchblade knife. Uono further searching of the individual he was found to have several ID’s and ATM cards from recent victims of thefts. Luoma was also found to be in possession of a counterfeit license in a victim’s name. Luoma was arrested on charges of counterfeiting a state seal and possession of a switchblade knife. He was transported to the county jail on an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest. Charges will be sought through the District Attorney’s office. On March 28th, 2005 at 0200 hours officers responded on report of a juvenile having been shot with a BB gun to the rear of the El Cerrito High School. Investigation revealed that the victim, a 15 year old El Cerrito female had been shot several times in the shoulder and back of the head with a BB gun leaving welts. The person that had shot her was a friend of hers. A 17 year old Berkley resident was contacted and arrested for an assault with a deadly weapon. He admitted to shooting the victim but stated that he had not intended to hurt her. The suspect was released to his mother. The case will be forwarded to the juvenile probation department for disposition. On March 27th, 2005 at 0147 hours officers were flagged down at the Jack in the Box located at 5920 Cutting Blvd as a man walked away from the drive through window. The victim stated that the man had demanded free food but when he had been denied he produced a knife and threatened the teller. Officers arrested Frederich Abraham, a 55 year old El Cerrito resident for Attempted Robbery. He was transported to the County Jail. Charges will be sought through the District Attorney’s office. On March 26th, 2005 at 0050 hours an officer attempted to stop a 1995 Oldsmobile Silhouette van for a traffic violation at San Pablo Ave and Cutting Blvd. When the emergency light were activated the van sped up and fled into Richmond. The officer pursued for a total of one mile before discontinuing the pursuit due to the van driving at speeds of approximately 55 MPH over speed bumps. Shortly after the pursuit was terminated the van crashed into a yard in the 3300 block of Center Ave. Officers arrested Monisha Whigham, an 18 year old female from Antioch on charges of car theft, evading police, driving on a suspended license, and making false statements. Whigham sustained minor injuries due to her collision. She was treated at Doctor’s Hospital and released. The driver of a car hit by Whigham when she crashed sustained minor injuries and was transported to Doctor’s Hospital and released. Whigham was transported to County jail. During a continuing investigation of a residential burglary that occurred on 3-25-2005 in the 1700 block of Wesley Ave., El Cerrito an arrest warrant was obtained for a Yvette Hummel, a 37 year old Richmond resident for possession of stolen property. She was arrested at 100 37th St., Richmond on 7-18-2005 by Detectives of the El Cerrito Police Department. She was booked and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. The case will be taken to the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office for a complaint. On March 23, 2005 at 2204 hours Burger King drive through (6021 Central Ave). A man orders food at the drive through and then brandishes a screwdriver, demanding money. The teller closed the window and the suspect did not obtain any money. He drove off in a White 2 door Buick license 5LGZ702. The investigation lead to the arrest of the suspect, Todd Grayson, a parolee from Oakland on March 29th, at the Parole Office in Oakland. Grayson had been recently released from prison after serving time for a rape that had occurred in the Kirby’s restaurant in 1988. Kirby’s was located in the El Cerrito Plaza next to the old Capwell’s store before the redevelopment of the El Cerrito Plaza. On Wednesday, March 23rd, 2005 Detectives conducted a Probation search at 5300 Sacramento Avenue in Richmond. During the search 6 grams of heroin, a small quantity of Methamphetamine and various forms of drug paraphernalia were found. Residents Dale Nelson, 49 years old and Carlton Smith, 32 years old were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance for sales. Daniel Taylor, a 41 year old Richmond resident was arrested for an outstanding warrant for his arrest, issued in Contra Costa County for possession of methamphetamine for sales. All three were transported to the county jail. Charges are being sought through the district attorney’s office. On March 22nd, 2005 at 1614 hours three male juveniles were involved in the robbery of a 42 year old Asian Female on an AC Transit bus near San Pablo Ave and Knott Ave. The juveniles grabbed the purse of the victim and tugged it from her grasp after she put up an initial struggle to maintain the purse. She sustained no injuries during the robbery. The suspects fled on foot past the Skechers shoe store and over residential fences on the far side of the freeway. Employees of the El Cerrito Honda gave chase to the three and detained two of the three suspects. The14 and 15 year old Richmond residents were taken into custody and cooperated in the investigation, naming the third suspect. They were released to their parents. The victim’s purse was recovered. On March 24th, detectives arrested the third suspect, a 15 year old Richmond resident without incident at El Cerrito High School. After questioning he was released to his parent. On March 21st, 2005 at 2046 hours an officer located a stolen car parked in the driveway at 6453 Hagen Blvd. The officer conducted a surveillance of the car and observed a male entering the car and drive off. The officer conducted a stop on the vehicle and placed the driver, Demetrius Trim, a 34 year old Rodeo resident under arrest. Trim was determined to be on parole. Trim had been allowed t0 use the car two weeks prior and had never returned from the store with the car. It had finally been reported stolen to the Richmond Police on March 19th. Trim was transported to the county jail on charges of car theft and a parole hold. Charges will be sought through the District Attorney’s office. On March 21st, 2005 at 0245 hours an officer contacted a suspicious auto parked at 10883 San Pablo Ave. during the contact the lone occupant of the car, James Foster, a 35 year old Berkeley resident was found to possess hypodermic needles and methamphetamine. Foster was arrested on those charges and released pending the drugs being tested at the crime lab. Charges will be sought through the District Attorney’s office when the results return from the lab. On March 20th, 2005 an officer contacted Brendan Carlton at the payphone in front of the 7-eleven at 7022 Stockton Ave. A hypodermic needle and a small bag of methamphetamine were located on the ground next to Carlton. The officer asked Carlton if the drugs belonged to him and he admitted they belonged to him. He was arrested and booked on charges of possession of a controlled substance and a hypodermic needle. On March 20th, 2005 at 0124 hours an officer stopped a 1990 Toyota Camry for not displaying a license plate at Schmidt Lane and Kearney Street. The officer checked the VIN on the vehicle and determined the vehicle had been reported stolen to the San Rafael Police on March 10th. The driver, Sandra Tejada, a 38 year old San Anselmo resident and a Juvenile passenger were taken into custody. During the booking process it was determined that Tejada and the juvenile had both initially provided false names. Tejada was transported to county jail and the juvenile was transported to juvenile hall. Charges will be sought through the District Attorney’s office and the juvenile probation system. On March 19th, 2005 at 0652 hours an officer made a traffic enforcement stop on a bicyclist at Lincoln Ave and Norvell St. During the contact the bicyclist dropped a plastic baggie containing what appeared to be methamphetamine. David Klemenchich, a 49 year old El Sobrante resident was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. He was also found to be under the influence of a controlled substance. He was booked and released pending the testing of the suspected drugs by the crime lab. On March 18th, 2005 at 1845 hours officers responded to the Walgreens store at 11565 San Pablo Ave. on report of a man passing a counterfeit travelers check. Officers detained Ranier Griffin, a 21 year old Oakland resident for burglary forgery and identity theft. Griffin had in his possession a counterfeit driver’s license to facilitate the passing of the check. Griffin was transported to the county jail. On March 17th, 2005 at 1530 hours an officer observed a car parked in front of 6453 Hagen Blvd. that belonged to a parolee. Due to ongoing criminal activity around the residence, the office contacted the driver of the car and found him to be in possession of a small quantity of crack cocaine. Navarro VanHook a 36 year old Richmond resident was arrested and transported to county jail on possession of a controlled substance charges and a parole hold. On March 16th, 2005 at 1710 hours officers contacted Anthony Adams, a 23 year old male from New York as part of a welfare check in front of 10650 San Pablo Avenue. It was determined that Adams had a warrant for his arrest in New York for violation of parole. He was on Parole for possession of a forged item. Adams was booked into county jail pending his extradition to New York. Persons arrested for out of state warrants go through a identification hearing in a California court prior to being sent to the state holding the warrant. On Monday, March 14th, 2005 officers responded to Copeland Sports (300 El Cerrito Plaza) on report of a forgery that had just occurred. An employee of Copeland Sports had followed two suspects to the Ross store and pointed out the suspects to officers as they were attempting to purchase items in Ross with forged checks. Officers arrested Dantaun Duraaz Prescott a 30 year old Fairfield resident and Terry Lynn Whitson a 47 year old Richmond resident in Ross. Prescott was found to be in possession of numerous counterfeit checks. The pair had purchased nearly $150 worth of merchandise from Copeland Sports and was in the process of purchasing items from Ross with the checks when arrested. Prescott attempted to dispose of a small quantity of methamphetamine after he was arrested and was being walked to the patrol car. Whitson is currently on parole and is being held on these charges and a parole hold. Both were transported to county jail. Charges will be sought through the district attorney’s office. On March 11th, 2005 at 1228 hours an officer observed someone that appeared to be stealing a car at San Pablo Ave. During the investigation he learned that the person was putting in a stereo for the owner of the car. When the owner of the car identified herself the officer noticed an Oregon driver’s license in her wallet. Investigating further, the officer discovered that the woman had two different counterfeit Oregon driver’s licenses and stolen checks in three other names. The officer arrested Kendra Timmons, a 36 year old Richmond resident for identity theft. During the booking process a small amount of methamphetamine was found in her purse. On March 9th, 2005 at 1339 hours, officers observed Dennis Lanham Sr. a 54 year old of 6806 Gladys Ave moving out of his home. A probation search was conducted of the residence and his vehicles. The search located a small amount of methamphetamine, heroin, drug paraphernalia and a home made key used to steal cars. Lanham was placed under arrest and transported to county jail. On March 9th, 2005 at 1128 hours, an officer made a pedestrian stop on an individual that appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance, methamphetamine. During the contact Thomas Debord a 60 year old Berkeley resident volunteered that he had methamphetamine on his person. He turned over a moderate amount of Methamphetamine to the officer and was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. He was booked and released, pending the testing of the drug at the crime lab. Charges will be sought upon the receipt of the results. On March 4th, 2005 an officer stopped a vehicle driven by Ramona Price, a 41 year old Richmond resident for traffic violations at Carlson Blvd and Butte Ave. The officer had previous contacts with Price and asked her if she had any contraband on her person. Price turned over a crack pipe to the officer. The passenger in the car was Anthony Burks, a 37 year old Richmond resident. A search of the car located an additional crack pipe and a rock of cocaine under the passenger seat. Burks fled from the officers on foot in an attempt to keep from being taken into custody. After nearly being hit by a car he was tackled and taken into custody. Both Price and Burks were booked for being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Price is also facing a charge of driving while under the influence of a controlled substance. Burks is also charged with resisting arrest. Price was released on a citation. Burks was transported to county jail. Charges are being sought through the district attorney’s office. On March 4th, 2005 officers responded to the Portola Middle School, located at 1021 Navellier St. on report of an unconscious student. Upon the arrival of the officers the student was conscious. The investigation showed that the 12 year old female victim had been involved in a fight with another 13 year old female student. During the fight the suspect had taken the victim to the ground and then kicked and stomped on the victim’s head. The victim was transported to Doctor’s hospital for an exam and was released from the hospital. The suspect was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Hall on charges of assault with a deadly weapon other than firearm. The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Probation department for disposition. On March 3rd, 2005 officers responded to a domestic dispute in the 800 block of Liberty Street. Officers arrested Michael Shaw, a 39 year old El Cerrito resident for terrorist threats and spousal battery. Shaw had made threats during the argument that he would blow up his house with his wife and children in the house. Shaw’s wife sustained no injuries. An emergency protective order was obtained barring him from the house and he was booked into county jail. Charges will be sought through the district attorney’s office. On March 1st, 2005 at 0800 hours an officer noticed a mechanical violation on a 1987 Mazda pickup truck and ran a records check on the vehicle. He discovered that the truck had been reported stolen to the CHP in El Sobrante on 2-17-05. The truck stopped at a gas station and when his back up arrived, the officer placed the occupants under arrest. The driver, George Richard Mares, a 35 year old Richmond resident was found to have a loaded revolver in his waistband when he was arrested. His passenger, Michael Curtis Bork, a 42 year old Pinole resident was found to be a parolee at large. They were both booked at El Cerrito PD and transported to the county jail. Mares is facing charges of possession of stolen property, motor vehicle theft and possession of a loaded/concealed firearm. Charges will be sought through the district attorney’s office. On March 1st, 2005 an officer stopped a vehicle for a vehicle code violation and determined that the driver was unlicensed and possibly under the influence of alcohol. After determining that the driver, Ramona Doreen Price, a 41 year old Richmond female was not under the influence of alcohol he was going to tow the vehicle for the driver being unlicensed. The passenger, Anthony Paul Burks, a 37 year old Richmond resident, went into convulsions as he exited the car. It was determined that he had recently ingested rock cocaine. A small rock of cocaine and a pipe used to smoke it was found on his person. The driver was subsequently found to be in possession of rock cocaine when she spit it out of her mouth. Both were arrested for Possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of a drug. Burks was transported to the hospital for medical treatment and Price was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. Both Price and Burks were released pending lab testing and review of the case by the district attorney’s office. On Wednesday, February 23, 2005 a suspect entered the Walgreens store located at 11565 San Pablo Ave at 2055 hours brandishing a revolver and demanding money. The suspect obtained an amount of cash and fled the store to a waiting blue van. On Thursday, February 24th at 2330 hours an officer saw a van matching the description of the robbery vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence at 6453 Hagen Blvd. in El Cerrito. The officer conducted a surveillance of the van and waited an hour before the van left the residence. The officer contacted the driver of the van and determined he was on parole. A subsequent search of the van located an air pistol and a derringer shaped lighter and clothing matching clothing worn during the robbery by the suspect. The officer placed two male occupants of the van under arrest for the robbery at Walgreens. Information obtained during interviews with the suspects led to the notification of detectives from Richmond and San Pablo Police Departments. Kelvin Ross, a 42 year old male from Richmond and Marlin Watson, a 38 year old male from Antioch were booked on charges of Robbery and transported to County jail. Detectives have been able to link the two to eight commercial robberies in El Cerrito and several others in Richmond, San Pablo and Albany. On March 5th, 2005 the El Cerrito Police Department received notification that Alondra Deleyna Goodwin had been arrested in Oakland on an arrest warrant obtained in July of 2004 for identity theft, forgery and attempted grand theft. Goodwin, a 24 year old female from Oakland had attempted to withdraw a large sum of money from a victim’s account using a counterfeit driver’s license in the victim’s name. Goodwin had fled the bank, leaving the counterfeit license and a withdrawal slip behind. Fingerprints on the items led to the identity of Goodwin. Goodwin is currently free after having posted bail.
