On Friday October 28th, 2005 at 2210 hours. An officer stopped a Toyota Pick up truck at Eastshore Blvd and Potrero Ave for a vehicle code violation. The driver identified himself and when asked to exit the truck he then fled on foot from the truck. The truck had been reported stolen to the Richmond Police several hours earlier. The driver was stopped and arrested near the Target store at 11450 San Pablo Ave. He was identified as Keith Chamberlain, a 24 year old White male from Richmond. Property in the stolen truck was determined to have been taken from the 600 block of Lexington Ave. from a car after the rear window had been smashed out. Chamberlain was booked on charges of possession of a stolen car, and auto burglary. He was transported to the count jail in Martinez. On Thursday, October 27th, 2005 at 1455 hours officers responded to the Ross Store located at 2000 El Cerrito Plaza on report of a shoplifting in progress. As the officer spoke with the management Dane Lewis, a 19 year old Richmond male left the store and was detained when identified as having been hiding items in bags he had brought with him. On Wednesday, October 26th at 1345 hours officers responded to the BART path at Potrero Ave on report of a robbery that had just occurred. Two black male juveniles, a 16 year old and a 13 year old, both Richmond residents had been sitting on a bench on the path and approached a 77 year old Asian male form behind when he walked past them. One of the juveniles grabbed the victim from behind in a choke hold around his neck while the other juvenile punched him in the arm. When the victim began to scream for help they released him and fled on foot. They were detained a short distance away and identified by a witness that had followed them after the attack. Both juveniles admitted their involvement in the attack and claimed the intent was to have robbed the man. The older of the two suspects has been arrested two previous times this year for robberies. On Wednesday, October 26th, 2005 at 0940 officers responded to the Albertson’s store at 1000 El Cerrito Plaza on report of a shoplifter in custody. John Pobuda, a 47 year old white male from Incline Village, Nevada had been arrested by a store employee when she saw him concealing various items from the pharmacy area totaling over $240 in a bag before leaving the store without paying for the items. A records check showed that Pobuda had several convictions for theft. He was booked for theft with priors and transported to the county jail. On Tuesday, October 25th at 1350 hours officers responded to the Wells Fargo Bank located at 9800 San Pablo Ave. on report of a forgery in progress. Officers arrested Deanna Gray, an 18 year old black female from San Pablo. She had presented a stolen/forged check to be cashed. She was charged with forgery, possession of stolen property and burglary and transported to the county jail. On Tuesday, October 25th, 2005 at 1130 hours officers responded on report of a stolen car in the area of Spyglass and Cutting Blvd. The car had the On Star system and was being tracked by the company. An officer followed the car on Cutting Blvd as it left the area of Pebble Beach drive waiting for additional units to make a stop on the car. The car fled a high speed down Barrett Ave and was lost for a few minutes until the On Star Company directed officers to Poinsett Ave where the car was reported to have been parked and turned off with the key removed. The car was located parked in a driveway. A search of the area located the driver, Timothy Whalen, a 31 year old White Emeryville male as he tired to walk out of the area. He had hidden his clothing, a back pack and the key to the stolen car in a rear yard he was seen leaving when he was arrested. He was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and transported to the county jail. On Monday, October 24th, 2005 at 0300 hours officers responded tot the 1300 block of Navellier St. on report of people looking into cars with flashlights. The three suspects pried open a 2001 Mazda 626 and stole the stereo and other items from the trunk. They then fled in a silver minivan as a witness neighbor watched. The van was stopped several blocks away and was found to contain numerous stereos and other property. Three Hispanic males, all from Oakland were arrested. Fabian, Medina 21 years, Hector Gutierrez 21 years, and Jose Chavez, 20 years were all booked on charges of burglary and transported to the county jail. Later in the morning two additional auto burglaries were reported in the 900 block of Galvin Dr. The stereos taken from the cars were recovered from the suspect van and all property was returned to the rightful owners. On Sunday, October 23rd, 2005 at 1635 hours officers responded to the Target store located at 11450 San Pablo Ave. on report of a theft that had just occurred. The suspect had selected numerous items of clothing and left the store without paying for the items. The loss prevention employees of Target kept her under surveillance as she placed the items in her car and then walked across the street. The officers detained the suspect across the street and she was identified by the loss prevention officers. A records check showed that she had been convicted of theft on prior occasions and she was booked on charges of theft with priors. She faces charges of Burglary, and felony theft with priors. On Sunday October 23rd, 2005 at 1215 hours officers responded to the Target Store located at 11450 San Pablo Ave on report of a shoplifter in custody. Demarr Carney, a 20 year old Richmond male had been observed unwrapping and hiding on his person several video games inside the store. He had then tried to leave the store without paying for the items. During his booking it was learned that he had two prior convictions for theft and was on probation for theft. He was booked on charges of theft with priors. He was transported to the county jail. On Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 1030 hours officers responded to the Bank of America at 10422 San Pablo Ave on report of a forgery in progress. Officers detained Michelle Vallejo a 29 year old black female from Citrus Heights at the counter after she had tried to deposit a counterfeit check. During the investigation it was learned that she had deposited a second check the previous day and that there were several other persons involved in the check scam. Lara Ablang a 19 year old Filipina female, James Spearman a 19 year old Black male and Freddy Walters a 20 year old Black male all from Antioch were also arrested when they came to pick up Vallejo. All four suspects were booked on charges of burglary and forgery and transported to the county jail. On Friday, October 21st, 2005 at 2045 hours an officer in the area of Carlson Blvd. and San Diego St. heard a female screaming in the area. He then saw a black male running toward him, carrying a purse. The officer ordered the man to stop but he continued to flee on foot into the neighborhood. The officer pursued him on foot and other officers put a perimeter in place to search for the suspect as he jumped fences. Edward White, a 22 year old San Francisco black male was arrested after he ran from the block through a muddy creek area. The victim, a 21 year old Korean female had been returning home with groceries when White had grabbed her purse from her shoulder. The victim had tried to fight for the purse but the suspect had pulled it form her grasp. The victim had sustained a scuffed knee from the incident. All of her property had been recovered. On Wednesday, October 19th, 2005 at 1000 hours detectives were in the area of 22nd St and Roosevelt Ave in San Pablo while attempting to serve arrest warrants on several El Cerrito cases. They noticed a gold Honda Civic that had been painted half black with spray paint. A check of the car showed that it had been reported stolen to the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office on October 18th. The car was being driven and the detectives conducted a traffic stop on the car. The driver, Sergio Corona, a 25 year old San Pablo resident was arrested for possession of a stolen car. On Tuesday, October 18th, 2005 at 2230 hours the victim of a battery came to the El Cerrito Police department to report the incident. The suspect was known to the victim and had attempted to take her ATM card from her. The victim had been able to maintain possession of her ATM card and the suspect had fled the residence in the 11700 block of San Pablo Ave. The victim sustained no injuries during the incident. After the investigation, the suspect had returned to the residence and he was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with attempted robbery and battery. Victor Leon Vasquez, a 29 year old El Cerrito resident was transported to the county jail. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for prosecution. On Sunday, October 16th, 2005 at 0117 hours officers responded to the intersection of Central Ave. and Carlson Blvd. on report of a collision with injuries. Upon the arrival of the officers the driver of one of the vehicles was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. Sarah Bump, a 31 year old Pinole resident was arrested for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and causing an injury, a felony. A 25 year old Albany resident was transported by ambulance to the hospital on complaint of back and neck pain. The investigation showed that Bump, driving a Honda Civic ran a red light and was struck broadside by the other vehicle, a Toyota Camry. A passenger of Bump’s was not injured during the collision. On Friday, October 14th, 2005 at 1530 hours officers responded to a residential burglary in progress in the 5200 block of Cypress Ave. called in by a neighbor. Officers arrived to find two juveniles, a 16 year old Richmond female and a 15 year old Richmond male standing below a broken window that had been opened after it had been broken. The female was booked into juvenile hall on a burglary charge and the male was released to a family member. On Friday, October 14th, 2005 at 1245 hours an officer observed a stolen car driving on South 55th at Cypress Ave and attempted to stop the car. The three occupants of the car fled the vehicle on foot. The stolen car was abandoned as it was still moving and collided with a parked car causing minor damage to both vehicles. The Driver and one of the passengers were arrested as they fled. The driver was identified as a 13 year old San Pablo resident and the passenger a 14 year old Richmond resident. Both were released to the custody of family members as the juvenile hall would not accept the two juveniles. The stolen car was a 1987 Toyota Camry and had been reported stolen to the Richmond Police the day before. On October 13, 2005 at 1315 hours an officer was inside the Bank of America located at 10422 San Pablo Ave conducting follow up on a case when he was approached by a teller that was questioning the validity of an ID card a customer had presented to cash a $2500 check. The officer determined that the ID was counterfeit and arrested the woman at the counter. Joy Smith a 19 year old Oakland resident was found to be in possession of a stolen/forged check a counterfeit California ID card in the name of the victim. Smith was booked on charges of burglary, possession of a counterfeit license and forgery. She was transported to the county jail. On Wednesday October 19th, 2005 at 2000 hours officers arrested Gerardo Andres Garcia in the 900 block of Lexington Ave. with a warrant for his arrest for two misdemeanor counts of Indecent Exposure. The charges came to light on October 11th after two 13 year old girls reported an incident that had just occurred where Garcia had exposed himself to the girls as they walked by his home. Garcia’s home has windows that face onto Moeser Ln in the vicinity of Lexington Ave. Garcia had been inside his home while the victims were walking by. With the cooperation of Garcia’s girlfriend, officers were able to collect evidence related to the case. An additional victim, a 78 year old woman was also located in the neighborhood that had been victimized in June when Garcia had exposed himself to her as she walked by the house. On Tuesday, October 10th, 2005 at 2145 hours officers responded to the Target store located at 11450 San Pablo Ave. on report of an employee in custody for theft. The in house store security had conducted surveillance on NancyWambere Kairia, a 21 year old El Cerrito resident and observed her stealing cash from the registers she was working at over a one month period. Kairia stole $1400 in cash during that period. She was booked on one charge of embezzlement and issued a court date. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for prosecution. On October 11th, 2005 at 2000 hours officers responded to a residence in the 1200 block of Norvell St. on report of a person threatening another person with a police style expandable baton. Officers arrived and determined through the investigation that an argument had escalated to the point in which a 17 year old male resident had attempted to hit a family member with the baton but been blocked from doing so. The 17 year old had then punched the individual in the face. The 17 year old was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a deadly weapon and transported to the Juvenile Hall. On Monday October 10th, 2005 at 1733 hours an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a 2005 Chevrolet Impala at South 52nd St and Victor Ave. During the stop the officer learned that the car had been reported stolen to the San Francisco Police on September 10th. The car was a rental car. The driver, Jamal Kenneth Williams an 18 year old Richmond resident, his brother Jamel Kenneth Williams also 18 and Cory Jerrell Knapp an 18 year old Richmond resident were all arrested on vehicle theft charges. They were released pending further investigation into the circumstances of their possession of the car. On Saturday October 8th, 2005 at 2014 hours officers responded to the Target Store located at 11450 San Pablo Ave. on report of a man with a knife threatening security officer in the security office. Upon the arrival of the officers, the suspect was taken into custody as he ran out the front doors of the store. Earnest Murphy III, a 35 year old parolee from Richmond complied as he was arrested at gunpoint. Murphy had been arrested for shoplifting three pairs of shoes worth $90 . When Murphy was taken to the security office he became combative and armed himself with a box cutter and stated that he was not going back to prison as this would be his third strike. The security personnel allowed Murphy to leave the office to keep from being injured. Murphy was transported to the county jail on a robbery charge and parole hold. On Saturday October 8th, 2005 at 1021 hours officers responded to the Target Store located at 11450 San Pablo Ave on report of a theft by an employee. After a ten day internal investigation, Jose Luis Morales-Mora a 21 year old Napa resident was arrested for Burglary. Morales-Mora worked the night cleaning shift and had selected and hidden a car stereo while under surveillance. Several days later Morales-Mora had retrieved the stereo, hidden it under his jacket and was arrested as he left the store with the stereo. He admitted to several other thefts in this Store and other Targets. He was booked on one charge of Burglary and transported to the county jail. On Friday, October 7th, 2005 at 1608 hours officers responded to the 1200 block of Navellier Street on report of a disturbance. Upon the arrival of officers they located four cars with all of their windows smashed out. The owner of the cars, Raymond Paulson, a 46 year old El Cerrito resident claimed not to have known who had been breaking out the windows of his car. A car was stopped leaving the area with a large hole in the windshield. The driver, Tamar Levenberg, a 37 year old El Cerrito resident had a small cut on her hand and face. She stated that the windshield had been broken and she had been cut when Paulson had thrown a hydraulic jack through the windshield. She further stated that she had then gone and broken out the windows on his cars. Levenberg was arrested on a charge of Felony Vandalism. Paulson was arrested on a charge of Assault with a deadly weapon. Both were transported to the county jail. Both cases have been forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for prosecution. On Thursday, October 6th, 2005 at 2230 hours while participating in a stolen vehicle task force in Antioch, Det. Sgt. Maples located a truck that Antioch PD had put out an officer safety/ extra patrol bulletin on during the briefing for the task force. The truck ran a red light at Fitzuren and Contra Loma Blvd and was stopped for the traffic violation. The driver, Ralph George Torrano a 36 year old homeless Antioch man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and a pipe to smoke it. The Methamphetamine had been located during a search of the truck. Torrano was booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine, paraphernalia and a Probation Revocation. On Friday, October 7th, 2005 officers located Anthony Jumaane Johnson walking on Potrero Ave near I-80. Johnson, a 31 year old Pinole resident had a warrant for his arrest stemming from an earlier El Cerrito case (05-16473) occurring on September 24th, 2005 where he had rammed his girlfriends car several times with another car in the 5200 block of Cypress Ave. At the time the victim’s 6 year old daughter was in the car. Johnson had been arrested at the time for child endangerment, assault with a deadly weapon and motor vehicle theft. The car Johnson had been driving had been reported stolen on 9-24-05 in San Mateo as it had been rented with a counterfeit credit card. Johnson had been released from the county jail over the weekend and a warrant had been issued to take him back into custody. On Friday, October 7th, 2005 at 0320 hours officers reported to the 3200 block of Santa Clara Ave on report of a disturbance. The officers conducted an investigation and determined that Jose Luis Aleman a 24 year old El Cerrito resident had been involved in a fight and arrested him for an assault. On Wednesday, October 5th, 2005 at 1600 hours detectives conducted a probation search in the residence of Callie Driskell, a 29 year old Rodeo resident for evidence of Callie presenting herself as her sister during a traffic stop in El Cerrito in June of 2005. By using her sister’s name she caused her sister to incur fines of over $700 and would have impacted her driving record if she had been found guilty of the charges. Callie also had $30,000 in outstanding warrants for her arrest. Callie was found hiding in her house and was arrested on charges of False Impersonation, a felony. On Monday October 3, 2005 Officers responded to the 6700 block of Fairmount Ave on the report of a subject stealing property for a vehicle parked in the area. Witnesses provided officers with a description of the suspect and the direction the suspect fled on foot. Officers circulating the area located and arrested Annette Baby Perez (44) of Oakland after she was positively identified by witnesses. She was booked into the county jail for felony petty theft due to the fact that she had an extensive criminal history related to theft. All of the stolen property was recovered. During the booking process it was determined that Perez was also on Parole. A Parole hold was obtained from the Department of Corrections. On October 1st, 2005 at 0300 hours an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle at Key Blvd and Cutting Blvd. The driver Demetrius Devon McCullom, a 32 year old Oakland resident was found to driving while under the influence of alcohol. His blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit at a 0.24%. He was arrested and found to have three prior convictions for DUI in the past nine years. McCullom was booked on felony charges of DUI and transported to the county jail.
