On Tuesday November 29th, 2005 at 2045 hours an officer observed a Toyota Corolla fail to stop at a stop sign and nearly strike another vehicle at Schmidt Lane and Richmond Street. He made an enforcement stop on the vehicle. The driver, identified as a 13 year old black male Berkeley resident was taken into custody when it was determined that the car had just been stolen in Berkeley. The juvenile was released to a family member after booking for theft of a motor vehicle.. On Tuesday November 29th, 2005 at 1640 hours officers responded to the Target store located at 11450 San Pablo Ave. on report of a shoplifter in custody. Officers arrested Linda Rogers a 41 year old San Pablo resident for stealing nearly $200 worth of clothing and food items. It was determined during booking that she had previous convictions for theft and she was booked on Theft with priors. She was transported to the county jail. On Sunday November 27th, 2005 at 1200 hours, officers responded to Marshall’s located at 10794 San Pablo Ave on report of a theft that had just occurred. The officers stopped four suspects in the parking lot and an employee identified them as the individuals that had stolen shoes. The investigation showed that four pairs of shoes had been stolen by the group. The suspects had entered the store in order to steal the shoes and were charged with burglary of the business. A 16 year old juvenile from Richmond was booked and released to his mother. Jonathan Collins a 20 year old El Cerrito resident, Joshua Bell a 23 year old Richmond resident and Demarr Carney a 20 year old Richmond resident were all booked on burglary charges and transported to the county jail. On Friday, November 25th, 2005 at 1455 hours officers responded to the 10200 block of San Pablo Ave on report of an assault that had just occurred. The suspect had broken into an apartment of the victim, held a plastic bag over her mouth to choke her, grabbed her by the throat and cut her with a kitchen knife. The suspect also used a lighter and an aerosol can to blow flame at the victim. The victim sustained no burns. The suspect fled the apartment when the victim tried to call someone to help her. The suspect was detained at the Plaza BART station and subsequently identified by the victim. The suspect was identified as Ronald Vonn Prince Jr. a 37 year old black male from Antioch. He was transported to the county jail on charges of Assault with a deadly weapon, terrorist threats, and burglary. On Wednesday November 23rd, 2005 at 1305 hours officers responded to the California Check Cashing store at 10394 San Pablo on report of a woman trying to cash a counterfeit check. The suspect had fled prior to the officers arriving but was detained two blocks away. Sandra Blodgett, a 47 year old black female from Richmond was arrested for trying to cash a $469 counterfeit check. Blodgett was transported to the county jail. On Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005 officers were detailed to a burglary at the Old West Gun Room located at 3509 Carlson Blvd. A black male juvenile had tried to pry open the rear door and then broke a window. The suspect was unable to gain entry to the building due to bars on the interior of the window. The same suspect had attempted to defeat the rear door padlock two days prior on Monday morning as well. Both incidents were caught by video camera. Photos taken from the video were shown to school employees at El Cerrito High School who identified the suspect as a 15 year old student from Richmond. Detectives contacted the suspect and his family at his residence where clothing and other items matched the suspect images on the video. The juvenile was taken into custody for two counts of burglary. He was booked and released to the custody of his parents. On Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005 at 0900 hours the El Cerrito Police School Resource officer was notified of a student that had threatened a teacher. The 14 year old black male student, a Richmond resident was placed under citizen’s arrest by the teacher. The student was subsequently searched and found to have several rocks of crack cocaine in his pocket. The student was booked on possession of cocaine and assault on a school employee charges and transported to Juvenile Hall. On Monday, November 21st, 2005 at 1100 hours a traffic officer stopped a vehicle for a vehicle code violation and determined that the driver had a No Bail warrant for her arrest. Andrea Maestas, a 19 year old Hispanic Richmond resident was arrested for the warrant. A search of the vehicle incident to her arrest located a stolen Fastrak transponder and burglary tools. She was booked on the warrant and charges of possession stolen property. She was transported to the county jail. On November 19th at 2245 hours an officer stopped a car for vehicle code violations at Moeser Lane and Everett Street. The driver was found to be in possession of a switchblade knife and a small vial of methamphetamine. She was arrested and booked on charges of possession of a controlled substance, being under the influence of a controlled substance, driving while under the influence and possession of a switchblade and drug paraphernalia. On November 17, 2005, at 1120 hours officers were dispatched to High Tech Audio regarding a commercial burglary. Officers conducted an investigation and determined that the suspect had fled the scene on foot, but had left his vehicle behind. The suspect was identified as 26 year old Berkeley resident Courtney Alford. A Ramey Warrant was obtained for Alford and he was taken into custody on March 2, 2006. On Wednesday, November 16th, 2005 at 1050 hours a fire broke out in the boys bathroom at the El Cerrito High School. Employees of the school responded to the alarm and smoke and were able to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers. The El Cerrito Fire department arrived to assist in determining how the fire started and ensure the fire was out. The fire caused approximately $2000 worth of damage. A student provided information to the El Cerrito Police Departments School Resource Officer about a possible suspect seen leaving the bathroom just prior to the stat of the fire. On Thursday, November 17th, 2005 the witness student identified the suspect student as he entered school. The suspect student, a 14 year old El Cerrito resident was contacted and subsequently interviewed about the fire. The student admitted to starting the fire with a disposable lighter when he lit the seat cover dispenser. He apparently tried to extinguish the fire himself but had not completely put it out before leaving the bathroom. He was booked on one count of arson and released to a family member. On Monday November 13, 2005 at 2250 hours an officer made a traffic stop on a vehicle for a vehicle code violation at the on ramp to I-80 at Potrero Ave. The investigation during the traffic stop revealed the driver, India Coleman a 34 year old black female from Oakland was on Parole. A search of the vehicle revealed a stolen checkbook, a crack pipe and a Billy club. Coleman was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property, possession of a deadly weapon and a parole violation, all felonies. She was transported to the county jail. On November 11th, 2005 at 0210 hours, an officer located a car with paper dealer plates parked in the 3200 block of Belmont Ave with two juvenile occupants. When he contacted the juveniles, a 16 year old Vallejo male and a 16 year old El Cerrito Female he smelled marijuana smoke coming from the car. The car had been reported stolen in Vacaville three months prior. Both juveniles were detained and the male was found to have a realistic looking pellet gun in a backpack. The male was charged with motor vehicle theft and released to his mother. The El Cerrito female was not charged with a crime and was released to her parent. On Sunday November 6th, 2005 at 0115 hours an officer responded to the area o Schmidt Lane and Norvell Street on report of a stolen vehicle parked in the area. The Officer arrived but the vehicle had left the area. Officers located the vehicle driving North on Norvell Street at Manila Ave and made an enforcement stop on the stolen car, a 1989 Acura Legend. The car was occupied by four juveniles aged 14 to 17 from Pinole, Richmond and San Pablo. The car had been stolen in Richmond earlier in the day. On Friday November 4th, 2005 at approximately 1430 hours officers responded to the 700 block of Elm St on report of shots fired. A suspect knocked on the residence door of the victim and asked the person answering the door if he was a specific person. The suspect then swung at the victim. The victim armed himself with a baseball bat and the suspect retrieved a handgun from a car and fired approximately four shots at the victim. The victim was not hit and was uninjured. Four of the bullets entered a nearby residence. No one was at home at the time the bullets entered the house. The suspect and two other individuals fled in a black Acura Integra 2 door car. The suspect was identified as Joan Garcia, a 21 year old Hispanic male from Richmond. Both the suspect and the victim have gang ties. A warrant for the arrest of Garcia was issued in the amount of $1,000,000 for attempted murder. On January 8th, 2006 the Hercules police department arrested Garcia on an unrelated charge. He was booked under the name Albaro Martinez, but fingerprints identified him as Garcia. The El Cerrito incident was reviewed by the district attorney’s office today (January 12th, 2006). A charge of Assault with a semi-automatic weapon was filed with an enhancement for the personal use of a firearm. The bail for these two crimes totals $170,000. On Friday, November 4th, 2005 at 0700 hours detectives arrested Patrick Greer when he turned himself in for an outstanding warrant for two counts of forgery and burglary. Greer had taken two counterfeit checks totaling over $5000 into the Citibank located at 280 El Cerrito Plaza in July of 2005. The investigation lead to the issuance of the arrest warrant for Greer.
