Fairmount / Ashbury Intersection Safety Improvement Project
The City of El Cerrito Public Works Department invites you to attend a presentation and provide input on the planned Fairmount Avenue and Ashbury Avenue Intersection Safety Improvement Project. The meeting will be held on:
El Cerrito City Hall – Council Chambers 10890 San Pablo Avenue, El Cerrito, California. The City of El Cerrito’s Fairmount Avenue and Ashbury Avenue Intersection Safety Improvement Project is being funding through a federal grant from the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). The principal goal of this project is to improve automobile, pedestrian, and bicycle safety. Safety improvements to the Fairmount / Ashbury intersection are expected to reduce automobile collisions, provide safer crosswalks for pedestrians, and improve overall community safety. The proposed changes include traffic signal upgrades and roadway realignment.
The misalignment of the north-south axis of Ashbury Avenue currently results in traffic flow being offset from on-coming traffic, adding to confusion at the busy intersection. Additionally, the right-turn island contributes to the right-of-way confusion. Realigning the intersection will narrow the intersection, smooth out the misalignment, eliminate the right-turn island, and enhance the overall safety for pedestrians and vehicles. Plan to attend the community meeting and share your thoughts with us. If you cannot attend the meeting but have questions or comments on the project, contact Tony Gokoffski, Capital Projects Manager, at (510) 215-4322. |
