Community Service & Programs
The Volun-Teen program is designed to help local teens make a positive impact in their community. While many volunteer options are currently on pause as we transition out of the pandemic closures, typical opportunities include summer Counselor-in-Training programs, Special Event assistance, reception/administrative support for Senior Services, serving lunches to seniors, and more. Questions about the Volunt-Teen Program? Have a volunteer opportunity for local teens? Contact Recreation Supervisor Taylor Melton at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Are you in photography club? Or an experienced photographer? Interested in photography in college or as a profession? We're looking for volunteers with the first opportunity coming up quick: Pumpkin Splash (Friday, October 14th). In partnership with the Food bank of Contra Costa & Solano, the El Cerrito Recreation Department will have collection barrels on site for canned and non-perishable food items. The food collected provides a greater variety of groceries for the community members they serve. Items they recommend donating healthy, nonperishable food that you would like to eat! Here’s a list of the most needed items:
- Canned tuna and chicken in water
- Beans and lentils (dry or canned)
- Whole grain cereals
- Whole wheat/grain pasta
- Low-sodium canned vegetables
- Canned tomato products
- Hearty low-sodium soups
- Canned fruit in juice
- Nonperishable ready-to-eat meals (chili, ravioli, etc.)
Please note: The Food Bank cannot accept glass containers, food one year past its ‘best by’ date, open or partially used products, alcohol or food without nutrition labels.
The donation drive will run Tuesday, November 1 - Friday, November 18. Barrels will be located at the El Cerrito Community Center (7007 Moeser Lane) in the Main Hall entry and the Recreation Office (please see office hours).
