As of December 31, 2018, I am the Fire Chief for the City of El Cerrito. I have worked for three Fire Chiefs during my time here and I am honored to have this opportunity to lead the men and women who dedicate and risk their lives to protect and provide emergency care to the public.
I will be working with Fire Prevention, Public Works and the public to continue and increase our vegetation management programs. This will require cooperation with outside agencies such as East Bay Parks, to create a great defensible space around residential homes and the rest of the Wild Land Urban Interface area. I want to continue to work on various methods of early warning systems and discuss the possible needs for plans on evacuating these areas in an emergency. There is a lot of new technology available for us to explore and implement.
The Fire Department will be looking at increased calls for service as well as implementing new training to meet the changes that face us with the development of mid-rise residential units and commercial areas on the Avenue. There will be a renewed focus on emergency operations and updating plans to insure the City is trained properly to handle potential disasters such as large earthquake.
