El Cerrito Earth Day Celebration CANCELLED

2021 EARTH DAY, EVERY DAY work parties

In response to the ongoing pandemic and out of an abundance of caution, the Public Works Department has made the decision to cancel formal Earth Day Celebrations and gatherings typically coordinated in April.

Instead, the city encourages community members to do self-guided clean-up activities, within your household, "bubble", or "pod".

Choose a location in El Cerrito, such as:  Baxter Creek Gateway Park, the Ohlone Greenway, San Pablo Avenue, or Creekside Park to provide necessary TLC.

  • Please wear masks, long pants and sleeves, closed-toe shoes, and use thick gloves to protect yourselves.
  • If you collect large amounts of waste, please leave your bags of trash and recyclables for pick-up in a centralized location and call Maintenance at 510.215.4369 to schedule a pick-up.

Celebrate Earth Day all month, and know that you can celebrate Earth Day every day of the year!

SOCIAL MEDIA SHARING:

If you decide to do a clean-up, please share photos of your activities on social media utilizing #ECEarthDay21.

The City also encourages community members to take action in other ways during the month of April or anytime during the year.  Earth friendly activities include, being vegan or vegetarian for a determined period of time, avoiding plastics, or reducing food waste at home by reducing the amount of food that spoils in the fridge or on the counter top.  Whichever way you choose to celebrate Mother Earth, let us know by utilizing #ECEarthDay21 on social media. Sharing your story will inspire others.

THANK YOU TO VOLUNTEERS AND SPONSORS

Individuals, families, and groups of volunteers helped to spruce up the landscaping around the library, removed broom from Hillside Natural Area near the Recycling Center, cared for Cerrito Creek, distributed information about El Cerrito’s smoke-free policies to businesses, picked up litter and helped to plant trees in Arlington Park. Following the work parties, volunteers were honored at an appreciation lunch at the Community Center.
