2016 Microsurfacing and Curb Ramp Program
In September 2016, the City of El Cerrito's Public Works Department began construction of the annual pavement and curb ramp maintenance program for 2016. The scope of work includes installation of curb ramps, repair of localized pavement failures, sealing of cracks, application of a full street width microsurfacing treatment, and installation of the traffic striping and markings. The curb ramp, pavement failure repair and crack sealing phases of the work were completed in 2016. The project includes repairs at the following eight street segments which currently have minor to moderate distressed pavement:
The following street segments will receive a microsurfacing treatment the second week of May. A few days before the microsurfacing treatment, there will be preparation work that will have minor traffic and parking impacts.
Thursday, May 11 from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Residents and businesses along the streets that will be resurfaced will receive a notice from the contractors performing the work (Alaniz and Bond Blacktop) at their door a few days before the resurfacing work starts with more specific information about schedule, traffic and parking impacts, driveway access and contact information. Emergency access will always be allowed and accommodations for individual driveway access may be coordinated with contractors.
While construction is underway, you can contact Jesse Alaniz, Alaniz Project Superintendent, at (650) 280-2199 or Scott Akiyoshi, Bond Blacktop Superintendent, at (510) 783-9909. For general questions contact either Ana Bernardes, the City's Resident Engineer, at (510) 215-4385 or email or Gerardo Avila, the City's Consultant Project Manager at (510) 215-4322 or email.

Traffic Impacts:
The resurfacing work will be accomplished primarily with lane closures (Arlington, Fairmount, Lexington, Navellier, Norvell, and Schmidt) but also a few street closures (Stockton and Liberty). There will be "no parking" signs posted in advance and detours posted while the work progresses.
