Permit for Recreational Fires Within Communities of El Cerrito and Kensington

  2. Notification
    * Obtain information of a Permissible Burn Day the morning of the open burn from Bay Area Air Quality Management (www.baaqmd.gov or 1-800-792-0787 "south zone") * Notify the Contra Costa County Dispatch Center at 1-925-941-3330 prior to burning and insure that it is not a Red Flag Day. Burning will be prohibited if it is declared a Red Flag Warning Day.
  3. Location
    Recreational fires shall not be conducted within 25 feet of any structure or combustible material. Conditions, which could cause the fire to spread to within 25 feet of a structure, shall be eliminated prior to ignition.
  4. Fire Extinguisher Equipment

    A garden hose connected to a water supply or other approved fire extinguishing equipment shall be readily available for use at recreational fire sites.

  5. Attendance

    A person knowledgeable in the use of fire extinguishing equipment and familiar with the permit limitations shall supervise the burning material until the fire has been extinguished.

  6. Discontinuance
    The El Cerrito Fire Department is authorized to require that recreational fires be immediately discontinued if such fires are determined to cause a hazardous condition.
  7. Open Burning
    An open burning permit must be obtained for each event such as flag burning or any other burning that does not fall within the guidelines stated above.
